7 Fashion Trends to Watch at the 2026 Lagos Fashion Week
Published: October 13, 2026 Last Updated 16 minutes ago by FPN
One of the best parts of Fashion Week is seeing what show attendees do with clothes when they have a reason to be adventurous.
A familiar fabric appears in an unexpected silhouette, or a shoe you have been seeing everywhere finds its way into a completely different outfit, and someone on the street makes you reconsider a trend you thought you already understood.
At Lagos Fashion Week, these moments can be just as exciting as the collections themselves.
With the 2026 Lagos Fashion Week approaching, we are already looking forward to the looks that will emerge on and off the runway.
Nigerian designers have been reimagining familiar materials and styles, while fashion enthusiasts continue to bring their own interpretations to the way they dress. The result has become a fashion scene worth watching, especially when a trend begins to take on a life of its own.
This year’s theme, CRAFTED: Heritage. Innovation. Circular Futures gives us another reason to pay attention to the details, from the textiles designers choose to the techniques used to transform them.
We are particularly interested in how these ideas might appear in contemporary lace, reconstructed denim and new approaches to knitted styles.
Beyond the collections, we will be watching the street style for covet-worthy outfit combinations, prints, colours and silhouettes attendees choose to embrace.
Here are the 7 fashion trends you should pay attention to at Lagos Fashion Week 2026.
Denim Recreations
Denim has become a particularly interesting fabric to watch because designers are finding new ways to work with a material most people already know.
Beyond jeans and jackets, contemporary denim designs are exploring unusual proportions, reconstructed panels and silhouettes that give the fabric an entirely different character.
Nigerian fashion has also embraced this experimentation, making denim recreations a trend we would love to see develop further at Lagos Fashion Week 2026.

NKWO and Boyedoe explored denim through structured silhouettes in their collections, showing how the fabric could move beyond everyday dressing.
This year, we are looking forward to seeing how more designers build on that creative energy, particularly through unexpected garment construction and more experimental styling.
While we will be watching the runway for new interpretations, the street style will be just as interesting.
A reconstructed denim piece styled in an unexpected way could offer as much inspiration as a complete runway look.
Animal Prints
Animal prints have been enjoying renewed attention, with their influence extending beyond clothing into accessories and even manicure inspiration boards.
Leopard and Bambi prints remain familiar favourites, but the wider appeal lies in how these patterns can change the mood of an outfit.
A printed skirt can bring character to a simple top, while an animal-print accessory can introduce a little drama without dominating an entire look.

Leopard prints appeared last year, giving us a reason to wonder how designers and attendees might reinterpret animal motifs for the 2026 edition.
I am particularly interested in seeing more than straightforward printed dresses or matching sets. Unexpected colour combinations, unusual fabric choices and inventive styling could make the familiar pattern feel fresh again.
With animal prints already inspiring beauty looks beyond the wardrobe, it will be interesting to see how far their influence travels this season.
Contemporary Lace Styles
Lace has been enjoying a fashion revival in Nigeria, and the conversation has moved beyond its traditional place in occasion dressing.
As we explored lace fashion trends previously, the fabric has appeared in red-carpet looks, music videos and more casual styling, bringing a familiar material into a different fashion context.

We are looking forward to seeing designers approach lace through modern silhouettes, less predictable cuts and styling that does not rely on the conventional occasion-wear formula.
A lace top paired with denim, a contemporary two-piece set or a dress built around an unexpected shape could offer a different perspective on the fabric.
We are equally interested in how attendees interpret lace outside formal dressing, especially when they combine its delicate appearance with more relaxed or unconventional pieces.
Mary Jane Footwear
Mary Janes have become difficult to ignore in the current footwear conversation.
The footwear’s recognisable strap and rounded toe give them a distinctive character, but contemporary versions have expanded well beyond the traditional flat.
Photo: MediaPunch/Bauer-Griffin Chunky soles, elevated heels and updated proportions have made the shoe relevant to a wider range of personal styles.
At LagosFW26, we will be on the lookout for how Mary Janes are incorporated into outfits.
With street style offering such a useful view of how people interpret footwear trends, Mary Janes could become one of the season’s most interesting details to watch.
Knitted Clothing
Knitted fashion deserves a place on our watchlist because texture and construction can make a garment interesting before colour or styling even enters the picture.
Crochet tops, knitted dresses and coordinated sets offer designers room to experiment with pattern, weight and openness, creating pieces that can look dramatically different despite sharing a similar technique.
We saw this creative potential on the Lagos Fashion Week runway last year, where crochet appeared in colourful, intricately constructed pieces.

The programme’s Woven Threads initiative also places textile and craft conversations within the wider event.
Although knitting, crochet and weaving are distinct techniques, they all invite us to consider how materials and making processes shape a finished garment.
I hope designers explore that relationship through contemporary knitted pieces, with street style offering another view of how these textured designs can be worn beyond the runway.
Fringe Fashion
Fringe brings movement to clothing in a way that can change the entire effect of an outfit.
Even a relatively simple garment can become more expressive when its hem, sleeves, or surface incorporates strands that respond to the wearer’s movement.
At the more dramatic end, fringe can add glamour to an evening look; in smaller doses, it can introduce texture without overwhelming the design.
Photo: Instagram/@lagosfashionweekofficial The detail is particularly noticeable in previous Lagos Fashion Weeks, where designers used fringe on skirts and tops to give their collections movement and visual interest.
For the 2026 edition, we are hoping to see fresh interpretations.
Tassels could also be especially interesting as a form of fringe detailing, bringing a more pronounced texture to hems or carefully selected sections of a garment.
We will be looking out for designs that use movement to enhance a silhouette instead of relying on embellishment alone.
Fluid, Draped Fabrics
Fluid fabrics offer a different kind of visual interest from structured denim or sculptural tailoring.
Rather than holding a firm shape, these fabrics follow movement and create soft folds that can make a garment look relaxed and elegant.
Silk and other fabrics with a fluid drape can bring a sense of ease to a silhouette, while considered gathering and pleating can give that softness a more deliberate shape.

We will also be watching how attendees interpret fluid dressing outside the runway, particularly through combinations that balance softer fabrics with structured pieces.
It will be interesting to see whether the season favours dramatic draping or more restrained interpretations of the trend.
What We’re Looking Forward to at Lagos Fashion Week 2026
Fashion trends become more interesting when we can see how different people interpret them.
A designer may introduce a fresh approach to a familiar fabric, while an attendee may find a completely different way to wear it. That exchange between the runway and the street is part of what makes Lagos Fashion Week worth watching.
With denim recreations, contemporary lace, Mary Jane footwear and the other trends on our list, we are looking forward to seeing which ideas gain the most attention this season.
This year’s theme also gives us a reason to look closely at the materials, techniques and construction choices behind the finished looks.
Ultimately, Lagos Fashion Week 2026 will give us another opportunity to see how Nigerian and African fashion continues to develop, and we cannot wait to see which trends leave the strongest impression.
