Tassels are the Exciting Fashion Trend You’d Love

Fashion has a funny way of making the smallest details feel impossible to ignore.

One season, it is a particular shoe shape. The next, a colour suddenly appears on everything. This year, the tassel has joined that conversation.

Once associated with bohemian dressing, holiday accessories and the occasional dramatic handbag, tassels are looking considerably more sophisticated in 2026.

These subtle details are appearing on dresses, skirts, bags, jewellery and outerwear, sometimes as a small finishing detail and sometimes as the entire point of the look.

The timing makes sense. Much of this year’s fashion conversation has shifted toward texture, movement, and accessories with personality. Fringe scarves and tassel accents are among Fall’s notable details, and recent runway collections have given tactile embellishment plenty of room to breathe.

A tassel also carries a certain confidence.

It moves when you move, catches attention without requiring a complicated silhouette, and it can turn an otherwise simple outfit into something considerably more memorable.

That makes the detail especially interesting now, when fashion increasingly favours pieces that communicate personality without demanding an entirely new wardrobe.

Why Tassels Are Having Their Moment

The current tassel fashion trend is less about recreating the fringe-heavy looks of the past and focuses more on giving movement a more polished place in the wardrobe.

On the spring and summer 2026 runways, fringe moved well beyond its familiar festival associations. Gabriela Hearst used it on suede separates, while Balmain incorporated tassel details into dresses, shoes, and bags. Bottega Veneta and other major houses also explored fringe’s movement in their collections.

This distinction matters because tassels can easily look costume-like when too much is happening at once. The newer versions, however, are more considered.

A row of tassels can finish a clean skirt, and a long fringe can change the way a dress moves without changing its basic shape.

Bottega Veneta’s fall 2026 collection offered a particularly interesting example of how texture can become the main attraction.

Louise Trotter, on the other hand, worked with shaggy, tactile materials, including a fringed knit and an asymmetrical black-and-white fringed skirt that created movement around an otherwise relatively simple outfit.

At Dior, Jonathan Anderson has also pushed fashion toward more tactile, fluid details.

His fall 2026 couture collection explored wrapping, tying, pleating and textile-like forms through an artistic collaboration with Lynda Benglis. The result made fabric feel alive.

The wider interest in texture helps explain why tassels feel particularly relevant now. These little accessories do something a perfectly smooth fabric cannot. They move, sway, separate and come back together with the body.

Fashion has spent years becoming increasingly visual. An outfit has to work in a photograph, on a screen and in a scrolling feed.

Tassels bring back a quality that is appreciated beyond a still image.

From Statement Pieces to Everyday Accessories

The easiest way to experiment with the trend is through accessories.

A tassel handbag can introduce the look without requiring a commitment to a heavily embellished dress. A tassel pendant can bring movement to a simple shirt.

Earrings can make the trend feel playful rather than theatrical, while a fringed scarf can add texture to an otherwise restrained outfit.

Fashion coverage of the trend pointed to tassels appearing across statement earrings, embellished clutches and woven accessories, with designers including Kallmeyer and Dries Van Noten exploring the detail.

The beauty of the accessory route is that tassels do not need to dominate an outfit to work. In fact, a little restraint can make the detail feel more modern.

For those who enjoy a more dramatic approach, the runway has made a strong case for going bigger.

The season’s fashion landscape is already embracing personality pieces and expressive accessories.

The Fall 2026 forecast points to a broader appetite for accessories that let the wearer make a more individual statement. Tassels fit that mood because they are decorative and dramatic without changing the entire silhouette.

Tassels also share an interesting relationship with the continued return of fringe.

Fringe has been gaining ground as a serious fashion detail rather than remaining tied to festival dressing, and tassels feel like a more concentrated version of the same idea.

The result is a trend that can be interpreted at almost any level. This flexibility may be why the trend has lasted beyond the initial summer moment.

As fashion moves into the Fall season, the detail is showing up in accessories that can easily cross seasons, from scarves and bags to jewelry and embellished separates.

And perhaps that is what makes tassels worth paying attention to. These details are not asking for a complete change in personal style, but are simply adding movement to it.

Fashion does not always need another complicated silhouette or another piece that requires an explanation. Sometimes a small detail can do enough on its own.

Tassels are proving exactly that, bringing texture to clean clothes, movement to structured pieces and a little drama to outfits that might otherwise feel too predictable.
