Atafo’s Sharp Tailoring and Empowered Elegance Kick Off Lagos Fashion Week 2026

Ahead of Lagos Fashion Week 2026, Nigerian luxury brand Atafo hosted an intimate private show that established the season’s direction.

The Spring/Summer 2027 collection, “A Measure of Her,” presented a confident vision of modern femininity through precise tailoring, versatile workwear, and details that balance authority with subtle appeal.

Models walked the runway in looks suitable for both professional and fashion-forward settings, marking a strong opening for one of Africa’s most respected labels in menswear, womenswear, and bridal.

Founded by Mai Atafo (also known as Ohimai Atafo), the brand has long been synonymous with impeccable craftsmanship.

Drawing on Savile Row training and a deep commitment to fit and finish, Atafo has dressed politicians, celebrities, and business leaders while elevating African-made luxury on global stages.

Previous presentations, ranging from large-scale shows with multiple runways and significant guest attendance to immersive, multi-sensory experiences, have established the house as a benchmark for quality and ambition.

“A Measure of Her” continues this trajectory, focusing on a refined womenswear narrative that expresses strength through silhouette, proportion, and polish.

The collection centered on chic, smart workwear with razor-sharp tailoring. Structured blazers sat cleanly on the shoulders, paired with tailored pants that elongated the leg or with midi and mini skirts that offered movement and versatility.

Asymmetrical and pleated skirts added variety, ensuring the lineup remained dynamic.

A restrained colour palette of dark blue, brown, white, and subtle stripes grounded the collection, creating a cohesive and understated sense of luxury.

These tones allowed the construction details like precise seams, clean lines, and thoughtful proportions to take center stage.

Accessories introduced personality and complemented the tailored pieces without overpowering them, reinforcing the collection’s balance of professionalism and individuality.

The collection was designed for women who move confidently between meetings, events, and daily life, offering thoughtful rather than theatrical pieces.

Although early coverage did not widely detail the private venue for this presentation, it fit within Lagos Fashion Week’s broader 2026 footprint.

The official event runs from 28 October to 1 November under the theme “CRAFTED: Heritage. Innovation. Circular Futures,” with main runway shows at the LagosFW Tents at the Federal Palace Hotel on Victoria Island.

Invitation-only presentations and offsite events are common throughout the city, offering exclusive experiences like Atafo’s.

Celebrity guests, including Veekee James, Hilda Baci, Liquorose, Anita, and Alex Unusual, attended, highlighting the brand’s cultural influence.

Atafo’s strength lies in its dual focus on ready-to-wear and bespoke work.

The house built its reputation on men’s tailoring before expanding into women’s and bridal collections that emphasize the same exacting standards.

“A Measure of Her” builds on that foundation while centering a feminine perspective, exploring how structured clothing can express presence, capability, and self-possession.

The title encourages reflection on how garments define or reveal identity, a theme consistent with previous explorations of identity and gender-fluid approaches.

Lagos Fashion Week remains a vital platform for African design talent, connecting creators with buyers, media, and audiences while advancing conversations about craft, sustainability, and industry growth.

By opening the season with a focused private presentation, Atafo demonstrated that intimacy and precision are as important as large-scale spectacle.

The collection’s emphasis on wearable yet elevated pieces positions it well for both local and international audiences.

As the week progresses with numerous labels presenting across runways and salons, “A Measure of Her” stands out as an early highlight.

It reaffirms Atafo’s place as a house that prioritises construction, longevity, and a clear point of view.

In a fashion landscape often driven by fleeting trends, these carefully measured looks, including sharp blazers, considered skirts, refined colour palettes, and purposeful accessories, offer something more enduring: clothing that helps define the woman who wears them.

For those following Nigerian and African luxury fashion, this private show offered an elegant and authoritative start to the Spring/Summer 2027 season.
