Model Adut Akech is Pregnant With Her First Child

Adut Akech will soon be a mother.

The 24-year-old high fashion model has announced she’s expecting their first child with her boyfriend, Samuel Elkhier. On Wednesday (July 31, 2024), the South Sudanese-Australian model shared the exciting news with her legion of Instagram followers with a black and white photo of her growing baby bump.

Adut, who’s no stranger to strutting the catwalk for prestigious labels such as Valentino, Balmain, Alexander McQueen, Saint Laurent, Chanel, Calvin Klein, Miu Miu, and many more, looked stunning, confidently posing in an open blazer that gave fans an eyeful of her burgeoning pregnant belly. In another slide, she struck a pose in an all-denim outfit to show off her baby bump.

“Beyond blessed and CANNOT wait to meet our bundle of joy!!!,” the model wrote in the caption.

In a newly published piece with Vogue, Adut Akech shared the story of how she discovered she was pregnant. Right before she found out, the South Sudanese model had a vivid dream that her sister was expecting a baby. The dream was so realistic that she woke up in the middle of the night and called her sister in a panic to check if it was true. Her sister reassured her that she was not pregnant.

Adut now sees this dream as the first of many signs. The next day, she developed an unusual craving for oranges, peeling them at home and packing bags of orange slices to carry with her. The day after, she felt an overwhelming exhaustion, despite having just attended the Valentino show in Paris, participated in several photo shoots, and flown back to Adelaide, Australia. As a top model, this busy schedule was nothing new for her.

Then came the decisive moment. “I was picking up my car from the service center—with my bag of oranges!—and when driving back home, I started feeling like I was going to throw up,” Adut recalls. It was then that she realized she might be the one who needed a pregnancy test. She took five tests, and they all confirmed the same thing: she was truly pregnant.

The supermodel also mentioned that she always wanted to be a young mom, inspired by her own mother.

“I always said I wanted to be a young mom because I love the idea of growing up with your kids,” she explained. Adut’s mother had her at the age of 20, creating a close bond between them. “The age difference plays a huge role in how close we are,” Adut shared. She loves children and dreams of having a big family—ideally four or five kids, and she’d be happy with six if some are twins.

Akech has about 10 weeks left in her pregnancy. She’s amazed by how far she’s come, yet still feels like she has a long way to go.

“I’m just waddling around, thinking, ‘What the heck is this? What is happening?’” she said, humorously exaggerating her movements. “Women…we’re built differently, honestly. I don’t think men could ever handle this,” she added.

In December 2022, Adut Akech publicly shared her relationship with her boyfriend on Instagram, posting a photo of them enjoying the beach together for his birthday. She described him as “the man who stole my heart” and the person who makes her “the happiest girl.”

They celebrated their first anniversary on April 1st, 2023, and since then, their relationship has continued to flourish. Now, the two lovebirds are excitedly expecting a child together.
