Dua Lipa reaffirmed her status as one of the most stylish celebrities of her generation as she walked the red carpet at the Metropolitan Opera’s opening night gala.
On October 19, 2026, the “Training Season” singer arrived at Lincoln Centre for the world premiere of Lincoln in the Bardo, updating traditional opera-house elegance with a modern, glamorous, and personal touch.
Her shimmering black gown from Maximilian Davis’s Spring/Summer 2027 Ferragamo collection balanced Gilded Age opulence with a contemporary edge. The look became one of the season’s most discussed red-carpet moments, combining theatrical drama with her signature sleek confidence.
Opera openings have long called for formal attire, dramatic accessories, and a sense of occasion. Lipa honoured that tradition while giving it a modern, trendsetting update.
The black Ferragamo gown featured a simple bandeau top with delicate spaghetti straps. Sheer hand-embroidered chiffon flowed down the body, adorned with gold thread, gold droplets, crystals, and ocean-blue sequins that caught the light with every step.

These sleeves, designed to mirror the gown’s construction, featured bandeau-style bands with sequined chiffon draping to her hands, offering a contemporary take on classic opera gloves. The effect was both theatrical and refined, subtly revealing her dramatic dark manicure.
She completed the look with bejewelled black satin slides by Ferragamo and styled her hair in a sleek, slicked-back ponytail with a deep side part. Minimal jewellery ensured the gown’s intricate craftsmanship remained the focal point.
Lipa attended the gala with her husband, actor Callum Turner. They arrived together, though she walked the red carpet solo to showcase her look. Turner wore a sharp black suit with a white shirt, providing a polished, understated contrast to her ensemble.

Composed by Missy Mazzoli with a libretto by Royce Vavrek and directed by Lileana Blain-Cruz, the production explores Abraham Lincoln’s grief following the death of his young son Willie.
The star-studded audience included Amy Poehler, Bowen Yang, Matt Rogers, and other notable figures from entertainment and the arts, underscoring the cultural weight of the night.
Fashion observers noted that Lipa’s choice was well suited to the occasion.
While referencing the glamour of Gilded Age opera-goers, the gown’s sheer elements, sequin cascades, and modern silhouette kept it contemporary.
Maximilian Davis, Ferragamo’s creative director for over four years, continues to update the brand’s heritage with luxurious, wearable designs. Lipa’s choice of a recent runway look underscores the close connection between high fashion and red-carpet appearances.
At a time when red-carpet fashion often trends toward either minimalism or maximalism, Lipa achieved a compelling balance.
The gown created drama through texture and movement rather than volume. The detached sleeves referenced history without appearing costume-like, while the thigh slit and sheer chiffon added the sensuality characteristic of her style.
Her styling choices reinforced the impact. Slicked-back hair and minimal accessories allowed the dress’s craftsmanship to stand out. The result was polished yet approachable, offering an elevated look suitable for one of New York’s most prestigious cultural events.

The look continued a recent trend of high-profile Ferragamo appearances, as other celebrities have also chosen Davis’s designs for major events this season.
Beyond fashion, the evening represented a convergence of creative worlds.
A global pop star and her actor husband joined composers, directors, actors, and literary fans for a night focused on a deeply emotional American story. Lipa’s presence brought contemporary star power to an institution central to New York’s cultural life.
Her Ferragamo gown, with its sequined cascades and modern interpretation of opera-house formality, captured the spirit of the occasion.
It respected tradition while remaining unconstrained by it, much like the singer herself.
Any thoughts?
