Kim Kardashian Reveals She Was Invited into Elizabeth Taylor’s Home to View Her Legendary Jewelry Collection

Kim Kardashian has often expressed her admiration for Elizabeth Taylor, the Hollywood icon known for her distinctive eyes, eventful personal life, and renowned jewelry collection.

In a recent Instagram video shared during her press tour for the second season of All’s Fair, Kardashian revealed that shortly after Taylor’s death in March 2011, she was invited into Taylor’s home for a private viewing of her jewelry, which remained in the safe, as well as her purple closet, before the estate was cleared.

“I was brought into her home [and] shown her safe with all of her jewelry before they cleared it out,” Kardashian told the Bulgari team in the video.

“I was able to see everything in her home, including her jewelry in the safe, her belongings, and her furniture. I went in right after she passed. I know that sounds unbelievable, but I saw these items in her purple closet.”

This revelation emerged as Kardashian prepared to wear one of Taylor’s most famous pieces, the Bulgari emerald and diamond necklace, for a photoshoot in Rome.

Bulgari retrieved the necklace from its archives specifically for this occasion, highlighting both the rarity of the moment and the influence of Kardashian’s longtime stylist, Law Roach.

Kardashian’s connection to the necklace began before Taylor’s death. She has said she was “lucky enough to have a phone conversation with her about this piece” before Taylor passed away at age 79.

That conversation was part of a broader relationship, including Kardashian interviewing Taylor for Harper’s Bazaar in early 2011, considered one of Taylor’s final interviews. They discussed jewelry, love, and legacy, with Taylor famously describing herself as the “temporary custodian” of her collection rather than its permanent owner.

The Bulgari necklace has a notable history.

Gifted to Taylor by Richard Burton, her fifth and sixth husband, it features 16 emeralds set in platinum, surrounded by circular-cut diamonds and linked by diamond quatrefoils.

The centerpiece is a detachable pendant with a 23.46-carat emerald. Estimates place its value in the multi-million-dollar range, with some reports citing $6.5 million.

In the Instagram video, Kardashian and her mother, Kris Jenner, viewed the necklace with Bulgari staff before Kim wore it.

Jenner playfully asked, “How does it feel, Liz?” Kardashian responded with visible awe and later FaceTimed Roach to thank him.

“Look at this. You did it. I don’t know how you did this. But this is like the best birthday present ever… Now I can start my year with this Elizabeth energy,” she told him. She captioned the post, “If these jewels could talk…” and tagged both the late star’s account and Bulgari.

Kardashian’s Rome appearance is part of a series of intentional tributes.

For All’s Fair, where she plays divorce lawyer Allura Grant, she has included several references to Taylor’s style.

One notable recreation featured a black velvet hood with ivory silk interior and scorpion embellishments, inspired by Taylor’s look at Princess Grace of Monaco’s 40th birthday celebration in 1969. Kardashian has also worn archival pieces, such as a 1951 Balenciaga gown at the 2026 Academy Museum Gala, styled with a vintage bouffant and diamond jewelry.

Earlier tributes include Kardashian’s appearance at Balenciaga’s couture show in Paris, where she wore diamond chandelier earrings that once belonged to Taylor.

The earrings, originally a gift from Taylor’s third husband Mike Todd in 1957 and later remade in real diamonds, were purchased by jeweler Lorraine Schwartz at the 2011 Christie’s auction of Taylor’s collection.

Schwartz, a friend of both women, has loaned pieces and created new designs in Taylor’s honor. Kardashian also acquired jade and diamond bracelets from the same auction, which Taylor had worn frequently in her later years.

Kardashian has often discussed what draws her to Taylor: the actress’s self-awareness, confidence, and commitment to causes such as AIDS research.

In interviews, Kardashian has recalled first becoming fascinated with Taylor through black-and-white films and photographs her father showed her. Their 2011 phone conversation and the private viewing of Taylor’s jewelry after her death seem to have made that admiration more personal.

Wearing the Bulgari necklace, arranged as a birthday gift through Roach’s connections, allowed Kardashian to begin a new chapter of press and projects “with this Elizabeth energy.”
