Yemi Alade, affectionately known as Mama Africa, never fails to celebrate her rich cultural heritage, and she’s showing it off in her 7th studio album. The singer just announced her 7th studio album — a captivating music video enriched with traditional African themes.
On Friday (July 25, 2024), the “Johnny” crooner posted an exciting teaser on Instagram to give fans a first look at the music video for “Karibu.” This song is the opening track on her highly anticipated new album: Rebel Queen, which she described as the “land of gold and joy” in the caption.
“WELCOME to my HOME ❤️ Land of Gold, land of JOY ❤️ Where the milk and honey FLOWS United we stand, Divided we fall #rebelqueen album #track1 Out at midnight…,” she wrote
Alade’s post quickly garnered attention, generating buzz and excitement among her followers who are eagerly awaiting the full release.
In the video, the Mama Africa singer is seen connecting with nature, dressed in a gorgeous Ankara-tiered dress crafted with tulle fabric. She is depicted running through a beautiful landscape with a variety of animals, including cows and zebras giving some sort of African-inspired backdrop. In true Yemi Alade style, she wore an elaborate headdress, featuring intricate braiding and colorful flowers, along with the gold bangles on her arms to complement the eccentric look.
The video also featured a mini-me version of the musician, dressed identically, adding a charming touch to the visual narrative.
In another clip, the songstress, wearing the same outfit, promotes her music with Ziggy Azalea’s “Peace and Love” off the album. “Rebel Queen” features an array of masterpieces, including “African Woman” featuring the legendary Angelique Kidjo, “Medaase” featuring KiDi, and many more.
Alade gave her fans the first glimpse of her upcoming album, “Rebel Queen,” on June 24, 2024. She announced that she was preparing to release what she describes as a classic album. Since making the exciting announcement, the 35-year-old singer has been steadily building anticipation.
She released a track from the album titled “Tomorrow,” offering her fans a taste of the new music and setting the stage for what’s to come.
Upon the album’s launch on the 26th of July, 2024, Yemi Alade shared an exciting post on Instagram featuring the album cover. True to her signature Mama-Africa style, she was dressed in an Ankara playsuit, adorned with cowry beads around her neck, traditional red beads stacked on her wrists, face paint, and an elaborate hairstyle.
“REBEL QUEEN ALBUM IS OUT NOW,” she captioned the video. “A massive THANK YOU to everyone who made this project a reality. Producers, all creatives, and directors. Thank you, Jehovah ❤️ #rebelqueen.”
“Rebel Queen” is now available for streaming on all platforms, and fans can start listening to the new album.
