5 Trendy Pieces To Consider If You Need A New Outerwear

At some point during the winter season, it’s likely that you’ll need to go out and purchase some new outerwear of some kind. While a run-of-the-mill wool coat will definitely keep you warm and can be a good everyday solution, you may also want to consider purchasing some trendier pieces. If you look around enough, you’ll find some creative, stylish outerwear that can make just as much of a personal statement as your favorite accessories.

Here are some of our picks for the loveliest outerwear styles to consider adding to your winter shopping list.

Studded Fringed Leather Jacket:

Black leather jackets are timeless pieces that, we’d be willing to bet, won’t ever go out of style. That doesn’t mean, however, that you can’t embrace a twist on the standard, somewhat minimalistic version of such a jacket. A fringed version, for instance, is more unique than most and gives you a way to express some personal style even in an age-old staple. Dan Cassab’s Geovana jacket with studded accents and brown fringes is part of a collection of impressive pieces that will open your eyes to how much there is beyond the standard all-black look. This jacket, or one like it, with a fitted white tee, some high-waisted, straight-legged jeans, and your best black boots can give you a casual-chic, Western-inspired look.

Cropped Velvet Puffer Coat:

Puffer coats are currently among the most popular choices of outerwear for women. Overall, however, the coats can be rather utilitarian. For those who are intrigued by the style but want something with a little more glamour, opting for a crop velvet puffer coat can be a nice way to go. In this kind of piece, you’ll look like a mix between a billionaire vacationing in the Swiss Alps and a streetwear model. (We’d call that a very cool look!)

Duster Sweater:

A cozy cardigan can instantly become an irreplaceable part of your cold-weather outerwear collection. It’s worth noting that the current sweater trends favor looser, longer fits – specifically when it comes to duster sweaters (or cardigans). Woman Within’s collection of different styles of sweaters made to fit all sizes features a few lovely examples of the duster design, all built with that loose, relaxed fit. This makes them ideal if you happen to need a larger size, but also fit the trend of more free-flowing cardigans. The cable duster in a holiday red is a gorgeous, warm-looking option, though you could also look for something like the cotton cashmere in brown maple or ivory if you want a more elevated version of the look.

Pantsuit:

While pantsuits may not necessarily be the most obvious choice for outerwear specifically, they can certainly be excellent alternatives to a normal jacket or sweater in a professional setting. In a piece here at Fashion Police, we pointed to several celebrities that have made pantsuits stylish, including Meghan Markle, Amal Clooney, Michelle Obama, and Ghanaian actress Jackie Appiah. That’s pretty good company, and plenty of reason to consider the pantsuit as a chic, modern outerwear alternative.

Corduroy Shirt Jacket:

With vintage fashion popping up everywhere you look, it may be wise to invest in a corduroy jacket as a cozy, durable blast from the past. For an on-trend, oversized fit, you might even consider purchasing this particular outwear from the men’s section. In particular, Acne Studios has a boxy, snap-button corduroy jacket that just screams the ’60s- or ’70s-cool. For you cinephiles, it almost looks like something Brad Pitt’s character would have worn in 2019 hit Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood.
