Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s The Odyssey features a distinguished cast, making the New York premiere a highly anticipated event.

Among the attendees, Lupita Nyong’o, who plays both Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra, stood out with a commanding presence. Her appearance on July 14,2026 was both striking and memorable.

Nyong’o selected a Nicholas Oakwell Couture gown for the Odyssey NYC premiere. The strapless, metallic gold lace dress featured a built-in corset and an elongated silhouette, showcasing Oakwell’s signature craftsmanship.

Fashion critic Catherine Kallon noted, “Wow” barely scratches the surface of what this look deserves. The gown effectively balanced strength and elegance, reflecting the complexity of Nyong’o’s roles.

Oakwell shared on Instagram that the gown drew inspiration from Joan Collins in Esther and the King, a film known for its balance of power and femininity.

This reference was well suited to Nyong’o’s portrayal of Clytemnestra, a complex and authoritative figure in Greek mythology. The gown represented thoughtful, character-driven design and marked a standout moment in Nyong’o’s red-carpet history.

While the gown was the focal point, Nyong’o’s accessories further enhanced the ensemble and reflected the film’s themes.

Nyong’o wore a multi-strand pearl and polki diamond choker from Sabyasachi. The five-strand necklace included 11.21 carats of polki diamonds and a tiger motif, which was also present on her hand-engraved ring. These elements added a regal touch and reinforced the film’s historical context.

Nyong’o also carried an Olympia Le-Tan book clutch designed to resemble The Odyssey. The hand-embroidered minaudière, illustrated by Jenny Zemanek, served as a meaningful accessory that complemented the film’s narrative.

As one fashion publication noted, the clutch made Nyong’o “the star of the red carpet,” highlighting its relevance to the event.

Her styling team included Micaela Erlanger (stylist), Nick Barose (makeup artist), and Vernon François (hair stylist). Together, they created a cohesive and impactful look.

Nyong’o’s fashion choices reflected the complexity of her roles in the film. In Nolan’s adaptation, she portrays both Helen of Troy, renowned for her beauty and influence, and Clytemnestra, a queen known for her intelligence and authority.

“I was so deeply honored to be entrusted with the role,” Nyong’o told Elle. “I mean, she is iconic. What more can I say?”

Director Christopher Nolan praised Nyong’o’s ability to convey the poise and strength essential to Helen’s character. “The strength and the poise were so important to the character of Helen,” Nolan told Elle.

“And Lupita makes it look effortless. I’m sure there’s a tremendous amount of discipline and training that goes into projecting that kind of poise and feeling the emotion bubbling beneath the character, the layers of the character right there underneath.

She’s just an incredible person to work with, and I was absolutely desperate for her to do the part.”

Nyong’o described the role as an introduction to Greek mythology. “I really had no idea what The Odyssey was,” she admitted to Elle UK. “I was like, ‘Oh, snap, I don’t know the first thing about this.’ So it was a crash course. I picked up the books and read them immediately. I have this film to thank for my Greek-mythological education.”

The New York premiere took place at AMC Lincoln Square 13, celebrating Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s epic. The film, releasing July 17, follows Odysseus (Matt Damon) on his journey home to Ithaca and his wife, Penelope (Anne Hathaway), after the Trojan War. The cast also features Tom Holland as Telemachus, Zendaya as Athena, and Robert Pattinson as Antinous.

The premiere highlighted the film’s scale and ambition. Nolan described production as “an absolute nightmare,” but clarified it was “in all the right ways.” The film was shot entirely with IMAX cameras in multiple countries, aiming to create an immersive experience for modern audiences.

Lupita Nyong’o’s appearance at The Odyssey NYC premiere exemplified the impact of aligning fashion, storytelling, and personal style. The Nicholas Oakwell Couture gown, Sabyasachi pearls, and Olympia Le-Tan book clutch combined to celebrate the film and honor its central female characters. Her presence was both memorable and significant.
