Wunmi Mosaku Stuns in Royal Blue Ahluwalia Gown at BAFTA 2026 Red Carpet
At the London’s Royal Festival Hall on February 22, 2026, British-Nigerian actress Wunmi Mosaku delivered one of the most memorable moments of the BAFTA Awards, both on stage and on the red carpet.
Heavily pregnant with her second child, the Sinners star not only took home the Best Supporting Actress trophy as the first African-British winner of the evening, but she also stunned in a regal royal blue gown that perfectly captured her powerful presence and cultural pride.
The electric blue one-shoulder creation by independent London designer Priya Ahluwalia turned heads for its modern flapper-inspired fringe details and undeniable elegance, making Mosaku a standout in a sea of black-tie glamour while celebrating a career-defining role.

The rich royal blue hue glowed under the red carpet lights, complementing Mosaku’s bright blue eyeshadow for a cohesive, striking effect. She kept accessories simple yet impactful with hoop earrings, and crucially chose flat shoes for comfort, a pregnancy-friendly choice that still looked fashion-forward rather than maternity-specific. Styled by Shameelah Hicks, the entire look radiated confidence, comfort, and intention, proving that red carpet dressing during pregnancy can be both regal and real.

Priya Ahluwalia, a sustainable London-based creator of Nigerian and Indian heritage, aligned perfectly with Mosaku’s commitment to championing Black and diaspora designers. As a Nigerian-British actress, Mosaku has long used her platform to celebrate her dual cultures, and this collaboration felt like a full-circle moment.
In pre-event interviews, she spoke candidly about the challenges of finding stylish, non-maternity-looking options while pregnant. This frustration inspired her own upcoming maternity fashion line, Iyadé, which translates to “mother has arrived” in Yoruba.
The collection aims to make pregnant women feel beautiful, seen, and represented, and Mosaku has been wearing samples from it even before her current pregnancy. The Ahluwalia gown embodied that same ethos: fashion first, with pregnancy considerations woven in seamlessly.

Set in the Jim Crow-era Mississippi Delta, the film explores capitalism, freedom, and ancestral power, with Mosaku delivering a standout supporting turn that has earned her widespread acclaim, including a Gotham Award and Oscar buzz. In her acceptance speech, she was emotional and eloquent, thanking her husband, family, and young daughter, whom she called her “greatest teacher.” She shared how playing Annie helped her reconnect with parts of herself she had “dimmed as an immigrant trying to fit in,” describing the experience as one of decolonizing her mind and reclaiming ancestral strength.
Wunmi Mosaku dedicated the win to the ancestors who were present on set and praised Coogler for writing the role specifically for her. The moment felt historic — the first British win of the night in a category stacked with heavy hitters like Teyana Taylor and Emily Watson.

Raised in Manchester and a former member of the Manchester Girls’ Choir, Mosaku first gained attention with her TV BAFTA-winning performance as Gloria Taylor in Damilola, Our Loved Boy (2016). She earned critical praise for her lead role in the horror-thriller His House (2020), winning a BIFA for Best Performance by an Actress in a British Independent Film, and delivered memorable turns in Lovecraft Country, The Woman King, and The Marvels.
Her work in Sinners, which has grossed over $368 million and received multiple Oscar nominations, has positioned her as one of the most compelling voices in contemporary cinema. At a time when Black British talent is shining brightly on global stages, Mosaku’s win felt like a well-deserved coronation.
Her red carpet moment also fits into a broader pattern of intentional, culture-forward style. Mosaku has consistently championed independent and sustainable designers, and her recent appearances including a bold graphic-print Ahluwalia look at the Newport Beach Film Festival UK & IE Honours just days earlier, show her evolving maternity style as both vibrant and purposeful. Whether in fringe, prints, or structured silhouettes, she brings warmth, color, and storytelling to every look.
From Manchester choirs to Hollywood stages, from immigrant stories to ancestral reclamation, Mosaku’s journey is far from over. Chapter after chapter, she continues to shine; regal, rooted, and ready for whatever comes next.
