Wunmi Mosaku attended the 98th Academy Awards (2026 Oscars) on March 15, 2026, at the Dolby Theatre for her first Oscar nomination: Best Supporting Actress for playing Annie in Ryan Coogler’s Sinners. Visibly pregnant, she wore an emerald green Louis Vuitton gown that complemented her calm, radiant presence.
The custom gown, designed by Nicolas Ghesquière and tailored by stylist Shameelah Hicks, featured deep emerald sequins in a mermaid silhouette with a soft flare at the knee. An asymmetrical shoulder cutout highlighted her pregnancy, while a high neckline maintained a regal appearance.
David Yurman jewelry complemented the look without distraction. The actress’s hair, styled in an intricate braided updo, referenced her Nigerian heritage, and her makeup remained luminous and understated. She chose low green heels or flats for comfort.

In interviews, Mosaku described the role as “divinely placed,” noting that Annie’s choices mirrored her own experiences with identity and heritage.
She stated, “I found a part of myself in Annie. A part of my hopes, my ancestral power and connection—parts of myself I thought I’d lost or tried to dim as an immigrant trying to fit in.” The gown served as both armor and statement, expressing that strength can be gentle and that Black British excellence is deserving of recognition.
Mosaku’s performance in Sinners, a major cultural event of 2025, earned her a BAFTA, an NAACP Image Award, and now an Oscar nomination. She prepared by studying hoodoo practices and mastering a Louisiana Creole dialect, bringing depth to Annie’s character.
Director Ryan Coogler offered her the role after a chemistry read with Michael B. Jordan. Mosaku described being cast as “something actors dream of,” and the nomination affirmed her talent.

Each look honored her heritage, pregnancy, and roles, balancing authenticity with symbolism. The shoulder cutout, green color, and updo each carried personal and cultural significance.
Amid the attention of Hollywood’s biggest night, Wunmi Mosaku’s presence conveyed quiet confidence. Her gown, pregnancy, nomination, and the story of Annie combined to deliver a clear message: power can be understated, yet unmistakable.
