Jason Wu Kickstarts New York Fashion Week SS21 With a Social Distanced Show

If there’s one expectation from the Spring 2021 Fashion Week, it’s that the shows will be socially distanced due to Covid-19 preventive measures. That’s exactly how it was on Sunday evening when Jason Wu sent out his lineup of models to kickstart the highly anticipated New York Fashion Week.

The show was both a literal and subversive response to the new normal when it comes to large gatherings during fashion week. It took place on the rooftop of Spring Studios, with over 30 models including LGBTQ+ activist Indya Moore strutting their stuff to showcase the brand’s latest collection for 36 the guests who were clearly distanced apart in the beautiful ambiance surrounded by palms and tropical plants.

For its collection, Jason Wu delivered a lineup of fresh, minimalistic, never fussy, ladylike looks perfect for the season it’s made for. There are slip dresses, shirt dresses, jackets, and pants — all come in flattering silhouettes and eye-catching hues. Wu, who is a Taiwanese-Canadian dreamed up the collection from a holiday in Tulum, a place where he calls “home away from home.”

“I think the world needs beauty and optimism,” the designer told The Associated Press after the show. “New York fashion Week is not over. It is strong. We’re here. … We can all be safe, be gathered, and still be able to celebrate.”

However, Wu did not only demonstrate strong confidence in his show but being the first amongst the 40 brands to showcase, he gave fans an overwhelming desire to dress up for a vacation again. Here, keep clicking to see the beautiful pieces for yourself.
