Chanel Cruise 2021 Collection Is A ‘Refined Simplicity’

In the midst of outrage and uncertainty, Chanel offers a wellspring of inspiration with its Cruise 2021 collection. This collection will surely inspire and make you want to celebrate for tomorrow just like Chanel’s creative director, Virginie Viard, who conjured up her inspiration from Capri — a beautiful island in Italy’s Bay of Naples where the Cruise 2021 collection was supposed to be shown. Virginie’s original plan to showcase the collection outside the coast of Paris for the first time in years was hindered due to the lockdown but she was able to imagine the beautiful Italian island into 51 looks of ‘refined simplicity.’

“Initially I had Capri in mind, where the show was supposed to take place, but didn’t happen in the end because of lockdown,” explains Virginie Viard in a statement, “So we had to adapt: not only did we decide to use fabrics that we already had, but the collection, more generally, evolved towards a trip around the Mediterranean… The islands, the scent of the eucalyptus, the pink shades of the bougainvillea.”

First and foremost, Viard’s artistry cannot be overlooked, but we’d be remiss not to applaud the collection, too. In fact, if you are looking for a ‘refined simplicity’ as described by the brand, you’ll find it here — a lineup of chic dresses, bikini sets, little skirts, and short pantsuits, alongside matching accessories.
