Gucci’s Pre-Fall Campaign Is The End Of Underrepresentation Of Black Models

With a spike in the number of black models that strutted the runway during the Fall ’17 fashion weeks, it was easy to see the fashion industry was making efforts to finally address the issue of diversity. At the end of the one-month event that took place in the world’s four fashion capitals, it was reported that at least one model of color walked every single show which many still argued the statistic was a piece of cake. But now Gucci is giving all the up and coming black models a chance to see a brighter future.

For the brand’s pre-fall campaign titled “Soul Scene,” the luxury Italian fashion brand cast only male and female black models to dance for the camera as well as flaunt its latest collection. Photographed by Malick Sidibé from Bamako, Mali, the campaign ‘takes inspiration from ’60s influences, including England’s Northern Soul movement, sparked by black American soul music.’ Now, this is a true celebration of diversity — all hail Gucci.
