Selina Beb Introduced Slogan #EndSARS and #StopRape Tank Tops At Glitz Fashion Week

The recent #EndSARS protests in Nigeria over police brutality and the senseless shooting of the protesters by the Nigerian military continues to spark a global concern. At the just-concluded 2020 Glitz Fashion Week over the weekend in Accra, it was the fashion with a side of activism.

Selina Beb’s Spring/Summer 2021 show was both a literal and subversive call to action, a presentation that brought show-goers to their feet at the Octagon Rooftop. It began like any other show, but unexpected surprise when the designer sent out models clad in tank tops with phrases aimed at protesting against police brutality and the incessant rape cases.

In bold lettering, each phrase expressed her stance on the current happenings. The pieces which were worn with matching black pants read, “End SARS,” while others were sloganized with “Black Lives Matter” and “Stop Rape.” All the looks were however layered over beautiful African prints cover-ups and finished with covetable accessories.

The collection also featured delicate white dresses and according to the designer, it was inspired by water, nature, as well as the political and social movement that’s advocating against incidents of police brutality around the world.

“We love this collection and enjoyed putting it together,” ” the brand said in a statement. “Most of the pieces were made in just a week but we managed to pull it off and had a great show! The collection was inspired by water, nature, African prints, and the current revolution going on among Africans/Black people around the world.”

The Ghanaian brand follows thousands of people around the world to lend its voice to the #EndSARS movement. Also, in a time when the requests of the people are still not met by the Government, it is a reminder that the SARS unit of the Nigerian Police force must be abolished.
