Zendaya’s Robot Look at the Dune’s London Premiere Isn’t Ordinary

True Zendaya fans have come to expect the unexpected when it comes to the star’s red carpet looks. From her Joan of Arc-inspired chainmail Versace gown at the 2018 Met Gala to her futuristic robot ensemble at the Dune: Part Two premiere, Zendaya continues to push the boundaries of fashion and leave jaws dropping in her wake.

For the London premiere of Dune: Part Two, Zendaya stepped out onto the sand-covered red carpet wearing a literal suit of armor. But this was no ordinary suit of armor.

This incredible ensemble was pulled from Mugler’s Fall/Winter 1995 couture collection and features a chrome suit interlaced with clear panels across the arms, chest, back, and legs. And yes, even a cheeky glimpse at the rear end. It was a daring and bold fashion statement that only Zendaya could pull off with such grace and confidence.

Accompanying the armor, Zendaya donned a blinding diamond necklace with a large blue gemstone encrusted in the middle, adding a touch of glamour to the robotic look. Completing the outfit were Mugler’s matching metallic stiletto platform heels, adding height and additional fierceness to the ensemble.

This suit of armor is just one of the many jaw-dropping looks that Zendaya has been showcasing throughout the Dune press tour. Her stylist, Law Roach, affectionately refers to her style choices as “method dressing.” It’s a concept similar to method acting, where an actor fully immerses themselves into a character. In Zendaya’s case, she fully embraces the world of Dune through her fashion choices, taking her fans on a visual journey that mirrors the dystopian landscapes of the film.

“I think of it as method dressing, kind of like method acting,” Roach told Bazaar in an interview while discussing one of Zendaya’s first major Dune looks: a dystopian-esque gown featuring large swaths of multi-colored fabric wrapped around sculptural circular shapes. The dress was however the creation of designer Torishéju Dumi.

“When I saw it after the designer showed it in Paris, I just kept in in the back of my head,” Roach continued. “I tried to see if we could modify it a little bit, and if you’ll notice, the skirt is a little bit different from how it showed on the runway.”
