Anok Yai Slams Washington Post Over False Met Gala Pee Rumor: “I Didn’t Wet Myself!”

In the high-stakes world of fashion, where every detail of a Met Gala appearance is scrutinized under a global microscope, one false rumor can spiral out of control faster than a crystal-embellished gown on the red carpet.

Sudanese-American supermodel Anok Yai has strongly denied a claim by The Washington Post that she experienced a wardrobe malfunction at the 2024 Met Gala, specifically that she ripped her outfit to use the restroom.

The 28-year-old model addressed the allegation on Instagram, firmly denying the claim and drawing significant attention online. “I usually stay quiet and keep to myself,” Yai wrote. “But how dare you misalign my character and imply that I ripped my outfit and peed on myself during the Met Gala of 2024! Fact check next time! Are you crazy?!”

Yai’s denial followed a Washington Post article by Maura Judkis titled “How do stars pee at the Met Gala? An investigation.

The article discussed the challenges celebrities face with elaborate couture at the event. It quoted stylist Mickey Freeman, who described an anonymous client’s experience with a sheer mesh jumpsuit embroidered with Swarovski crystals and pearls. Freeman stated that the client, sewn into the bodysuit, had to tear a hole to use the restroom.

Although Freeman did not identify the celebrity, Judkis linked the description to Anok Yai’s 2024 Met Gala appearance, noting that a Google search suggested Yai as the subject. This implication led to online speculation and the rapid spread of the rumor.

Yai continued to address the issue in a follow-up post, directly tagging The Washington Post and stating: “If you find any photos of my outfit ripped or urine dripping down my leg, send it to me.” Her direct response resonated with fans and industry professionals, drawing attention to the importance of journalistic responsibility when reporting on public figures and unverified stories.

Mickey Freeman clarified in an Instagram Story that Yai was not the client referenced. “Nope! It was not Queen @anokyai,” he wrote. He later described the controversy as “a hilarious non-story” and expressed his respect for Yai, noting that he has never worked with her.

This clarification highlights the risks of speculative reporting in an era of rapid digital searches and viral social media. An initial exploration of Met Gala logistics unintentionally led to a character attack on a prominent fashion figure.

Who Is Anok Yai? A Trailblazing Supermodel

Anok Yai’s career is marked by significant achievements. Born in Egypt to Sudanese parents and raised in the United States, she was discovered on Instagram in 2017.
