Why Is Everyone Talking About Tem’s Breathtaking Outfit At The Oscars?

Tems may not have taken home an Oscar this time, but the Academy Award nominee was one of the best-dressed of the night. We are talking about a look so good that had everyone talking. Not only did Stems make a statement, but she also ensured that all eyes were on her.

Outfitted in a dramatic number created by a Berlin-based couturier, Lever Couture, Tems gave everyone a run for their money when she arrived at the Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre. The luxurious confection created in a sculpted and sleeveless silhouette features a massive element curled over the back of her head to create a stunning headpiece — that literally blocked the view of anyone seated or standing behind her. But what better way to make an entrance like a queen?

To accessorize the breathtaking gown, the Nigerian star slipped into a pair of shimmering silver ankle strap sandals, dangling earrings complete with complementary eyeshadow, dark brown lips and a slicked-back baby bun that characterized the award evening’s most loved beauty looks.

But just like every other superstar, Tems look did not pass the social media verdict of some of her fans on Twitter, who criticized the 27-year-old “Crazy Things” singer for blocking others with her dramatic look. The photo making rounds on social media shows the other guests who are seating behind her craning their heads to view the stage with ease.

“Imagine waiting your whole life to be at the Oscars and you end up sitting behind a stratus cloud,” a user on Twitter wrote in a reaction to her dress.

Well, the tweet’s implied inference to the stratosphere served as a memorable high point for Tems as she awaited the possibility of winning the Best Original Song Oscar for her contribution to Rihanna’s “Lift Me Up” for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. After all, Tems had been waiting for that moment her entire life, especially after winning a Grammy Award not too long ago.

However, while the tweet was raising concerns from her community of fans, another Twitter quickly jumped in to save the singer from the slander. “Will not tolerate Tems slander,” the fan wrote, followed by another one who roasted the critic to ashes. “Stop crying and grow a longer neck,” the fan tweeted in defense of Tems.

Another user, admiring the extravagant look said, “Wait this might be my favorite Oscar’s look.”

Nevertheless, Lever Couture debuted the magical gown in Tokyo Japan in September 2022. And its part of the brand’s ‘Leleka’ collection which came in a mix of vibrant colors such as rich yellow, blue, and white. As per the brand, ‘Leleka’ is a Ukrainian word that translates to ‘Stork’ in English — meaning a bird cherished by Ukrainians, representing parental love, welfare and happiness.”

Following a song collaboration on ‘Lift Me Up’ with artist Rihanna, Tems was nominated for Best Original Song at the 2023 Oscars. The song was recorded in five different countries and served as the lead single for the sequel to Black Panther. It was a memorial to Chadwick Boseman, who played King T’Challain in the first installment of the movie but died of colon cancer in 2020.

Since her Grammy awards in Best Melodic Rap Performance category, Tems has become a motivation for many as her fan base keeps increasing. Her eye-catching gown to the 2023 Oscars is only a new source of inspiration — when they try to dim your sparkle, go ‘Tems!’
