For Joy Sunday, Short Hair is the Actual Beauty

For Joy Sunday, short hair is not just about the physical aesthetics, but also the sense of empowerment and freedom that comes with it.

There is something charming about people choosing a different path of beauty with their hair. Over the years, we’ve seen some of our favorite celebrities transition from long to short hair, whether due to a new film role or the beginning of a new relationship.

The motivations behind these hairstyle changes are usually diverse and limitless. A hair makeover can be exceptionally beautiful, sometimes evolving into a long-term personal style preference. Joy Sunday epitomizes this sentiment, having embraced short hair as her signature look and committing to it for the long haul since she turned 16.

When you think of Joy Sunday, a few key elements come to mind: her signature low-cut hairstyle, glowing skin, radiant smile, and exceptional talent on screen. However, beyond her striking beauty and natural talent,

The Wednesday Star stands out among a select few celebrities for her boldness and consistency in choosing hairstyles. For Joy Sunday, short hair isn’t just a another hairstyle but a choice that creates space for those (like her) who prioritize beauty and comfort over conventional aesthetics.

Her physical advocacy for short hair exemplifies that beauty isn’t confined to long, flowing tresses. In fact, one’s hair, whether curly, wavy, straight, or short can be equally elegant and beautiful.

Some time ago, on her “Makeup Must-Haves, Hair Memories, and Becoming Lancôme’s Newest Global Ambassador,” the 27-year-old actress open up her beauty secrets in an interview with Brydie. She shared insights into how she juggles work, leisure, and ongoing self-discovery while aligning with a brand that resonates with her values, highlighting some of the beauty benefits that come with it.

During the chat, she talked about the liberating experience of shaving her head. She mentioned how maintaining long hair took up hours every few days and how she eventually grew tired of it.

“When I had longer hair, it could take me three hours every two days to do my hair…This means I was watching a lot of movies that contributed to my career,” said the American actress who was born to Nigerian parents.

“But eventually, I got so tired of it. And so I think I looked at myself in the mirror one day, and I said, ‘I think I’d look good with a shaved head.’ I don’t know what possessed me to think so; I don’t know that I had any examples. I guess in my family’s village, there are a lot of young girls who shaved their heads, especially for school. But I decided to do it. My parents said I looked crazy. I came home, and my dad said I looked like my brother. But he said I looked cute!”

Just like every other decision she’s taken to prioritize her well-being, she has no regrets about it. “I just felt so beautiful after doing it. There’s a picture of me where I’m just beaming, coming home from the barber, which was actually my brother’s childhood barber. I did it when I was 16, and I haven’t really looked back,” she added.

They say we shouldn’t judge people based on their life choices. However, the Lancôme beauty ambassador invites good judgment based on the beauty of her short hair, quite literally placing her hairstyle front and center wherever she appears, be it in films or high-end events.

Her concept of beauty is holistic; it starts with her hair and extends to a fully glammed-up appearance that embodies the whole essence of being “Joy Sunday.”
