In the 11th edition, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie openly discusses her constant evolution as a writer, living with the ‘Feminist Icon’ title and how she’s using fashion “as a kind of political statement.”

See excerpts of the interview below:

On the importance of storytelling:

“Stories matter. Stories have been used to dispossess and to malign, but stories can also be used to empower and to humanize.”

On fashion:

“It’s important to challenge the idea that an intellectual woman cannot possibly like fashion. There are intelligent women all over the world who like fashion, but they feel the pressure to pretend otherwise because they want to be taken seriously by a mainstream world that has decided that intelligent women cannot possibly like fashion.”

On gender inequality:

“We have been socialized to think of power as male. So when a woman seeks power or has power, we judge her very harshly. We look for a reason to bring her down.”

On staying true to yourself:

“What matters to me is to continue to be true. To say only what I truly believe. To grow and learn and constantly question. I love knowing that there are people, particularly women, all over the world who feel a connection to my vision of feminism.”

SCHICK Magazine’s Fashion Issue will be exclusively available to buy on IamSCHICK.com/buy on November 1st, 2021.
