Newlyweds black couple amazed a crowd of Black Lives Matters protesters in Philadelphia when they decided to join the protests immediately after exchanging their wedding vows over the weekend.
The couple, Dr. Kerry-Anne and Michael Gordon tied the knot at the Logan hotel, after which they walked into the street in their wedding attire, and in the video going viral on social media, the couple can be seen applauded by the rest of the protesters as they share a kiss in front of the crowd.
According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, the newlyweds joined the march from the Philadelphia Museum of Art to City Hall. “It ended up being a very powerful moment,” the bride told ABC News. “Not only are we feeling the movement of the people… but I’m meeting my husband, on our wedding day, as a strong Black man and a good representative of who we are as people, what our men are like, what our culture is like.”
As she further stated, it was a “very empowering moment.” While the current protests in the US are a way of seeking justice over police brutality on the black community as well as inequality, the husband, Michael Gordon added that the movement is peaceful and what the black people are demanding are justice and equality. “We all see this injustice,” he said. “We all want to see this needle shift away from the status quo and … that made this day more memorable in ways. Everyone was so nice, that in itself showed what the movement can be and for us to be a part of that, it’s a positive thing.”
For the nuptial, Kerry-Anne chose a pretty fit and flare off-the-shoulder wedding gown, which she jazzed up with dangle earrings and pull back hairstyle with bangs. Her husband, on the other hand, donned a black tuxedo over a white shirt and a bow tie.
