The AMVCAs is back for its eighth edition after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We’re already counting down with high expectations for the 8-days scheduled for Africa’s most anticipated celebrity night-out.
Organized by MultiChoice, Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) recognize exceptional accomplishments in television and movies every year. Usually, entries for the award presentation include films and television shows that aired in the previous year. Unlike the past editions, this year’s event is preceded by a week of various daily activities that would honor all aspects of the creative and entertainment sector.
Asides from the recognition of industries that promote the right African Narrative, at the AMVCA, African celebrities come prepared, flaunting their experimental style and creating long-lasting impressions for this age of fashion. Who Is Hosting The 2022 AMVCAs?
AMVCA is known to be hosted by some of the industry’s best and this year’s is no exception. Busola Tejumola, Head of content, Multichoice Nigeria announced that IK Osakioduwa, media compere extraordinaire will be joined by the multi-award-winning South African radio host, TV presenter, and style icon, Bonang Matheba.
For Bonang, it will be her first appearance as a host on the show and as per the 34-year-old: “it’s been a long time coming.” On the other hand, IK Osakioduwa is returning once again as a host on the show and of course, with a high-end stage delivery. “I feel honored to be hosting the AMVCAs again,” says Osakioduwa. “I’m also really excited about the decision to honor the social media content creators with a category of their own. Trust me when I say, without a doubt, this year is going to be another amazing outing for the African film industry.”
The unique combination of a South-African and Nigerian voice on the glamorous stage of AMVCA is nothing short of entertainment, flamboyance, and excellence to expect. We just can’t wait!
However, The 2022 AMVCAs is just a week and few days away, but enough time for us all to brace up for the gorgeous dresses that will descend the red carpet.
When and where will this Year’s AMVCAs Be Held?
Reaffirming Africa Magic’s commitment to celebrating true storytelling across the continent, the one-week festival holds in Lagos, Nigeria, and begins on May 8, with the grand airing and award night proper on the 14th of May. Highlights for the week-long program are as follows;
- Saturday, May 7th: Opening night.
- Sunday, May 8th: The first-ever AMVCA runway show in collaboration with Bella Naija.
- Monday, May 9th: Young Filmmakers’ Day will be held with movie screenings and panel discussions led by students from the MultiChoice Talent Factory program.
- Tuesday, May 10: Africa Magic will gather industry stakeholders for a unique Content Market Workshop.
- Wednesday, May 1: Pan-African food festival and cultural day.
- Thursday, May 12: Digital Content Makers’ Brunch which will be held to highlight the rising popularity of online content creators.
- Friday, May 13: Special gala for nominees.
- Saturday, May 14: the award night in Lagos.
What’s New for the 2022 AMVCAs?
The unique line-up of activities which is the first of its kind since AMVCA’s premiere in 2013 is not all there is to expect. Digital content creators have also received special distinction at this year’s event.
For their earned fame in developing an identity, igniting nationwide trends, generating catchphrases, building a social media community, and delivering quality content to their audience even in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, Multichoice found them deserving of absolute and significant recognition at the AMVCAs.
Who Is Attending?
First, the list of attendees, as in previous years, will include Africa’s celebrities and global icons in the entertainment sector, ranging from actors, musicians, and models to designers, stylists, and other entrepreneurial pioneers.
Also, AMVCA nominees have been confirmed in 33 categories for this season, including the newly created ‘Best Online Social Content Creator’ category will be in attendance.
