Jewelry Trend 2024: The Choker Neckpiece

Snug-fitting chokers, those necklaces that sit closely around your neck, are back in style. They were popular in the 1990s and are making a fashionable comeback now. These accessories come in many styles, materials, and designs, ranging from simple and classy to bold and attention-grabbing. You can find chokers made of leather, velvet, or metal, or ones adorned with gemstones and charms.

Chokers are now a must-have in recent jewelry collections, and big names like Dior and Louis Vuitton are featuring them. Celebrities like Uma Thurman wore a Chopard choker with multiple strands of shiny rubies at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. Margot Robbie chose a pearl-style choker by Assael for the Barbie premiere.

Taking it up a minimalist notch, in 2024, simple ribbon chokers, sometimes with a pendant, are gaining popularity, not just the elaborate and gem-studded high-end versions.

Jewelry Trend 2024: Gem-studded hand jewels

We are talking rings, bracelets, and hand harnesses here. In Dior’s recent high jewelry collection, there was an introduction of hand ornaments adorned with precious gems, unveiling an innovative series of Rose Des Vents pieces, which include rings connected to bracelets with delicate strands running across the hand.

Modern hand jewels by designers Nada Ghazal and Charlotte Chesnais offer a contemporary twist to this jewelry trend by gracefully enveloping both the thumb and the hand. These designs draw inspiration from the fluid lines and abstract shapes found in contemporary sculptures.

Libby Page, Net-a-porter’s market director, notes a significant 40% increase in searches for double rings over the past year. Double rings have evolved beyond traditional styles, now spanning multiple fingers horizontally, running along the length of a single finger, or adopting the popular “toi et moi (you and me)” style.

Jewelry Trend 2024: Jewels on Clothes

Now, there’s a new way of thinking about jewelry for clothes, going beyond the usual rings and chokers. It’s about carefully choosing accessories to enhance your outfit, like adding special touches to make it stand out and reflect your style. For instance, you might decide to wear a striking necklace with a simple dress or opt for delicate earrings that match a detailed outfit. This approach has made jewelry and fashion become closer companions in recent times.

Big names like Cartier, Tiffany & Co., and Chopard are pushing the boundaries. Cartier designed a golden cape for Zoe Saldaña, Tiffany & Co. adorned Beyoncé with 150 feet (or 45 meters) of Diamonds By The Yard, and Chopard even launched a capsule collection of haute couture gowns at the Cannes Film Festival.

Pomellato introduced a versatile body chain suitable for both work shirts and evening gowns. Messika came up with diamond clip-on strands to add flair to trousers or tops. Ouie, a newly established London-based jewelry brand, offers silver, gold, or diamond-paved hoodie toggles that can also be worn around the wrist as stylish bracelets.

One of the most remarkable examples of this jewelry-for-clothes trend comes from Boucheron, which presents a flexible magnetized pocket with black and white strips of diamonds and onyx. This unique piece can effortlessly elevate the style of a winter coat, an evening gown, or even a favorite pair of jeans.

Jewelry Trend 2024: Wearable Art in Jewelry

Designers are now turning art into wearable jewelry, drawing inspiration from paintings, sculptures, and different artistic movements. A great example is Tiffany & Co.’s collaboration with artist Daniel Arsham and Pokémon, creating unique pieces presented in special blue boxes that highlight the cultural significance of both Pokémon and the famous jewelry brand. Daniel Arsham’s artistic touch even extends to a specially designed container for a specific bangle.

Similarly, Venyx introduced a jewelry collection inspired by surrealist masterpieces by artist Man Ray, proudly showcased at a famous art gallery in New York. Eugenie Niarchos, the founder of Venyx, grew up surrounded by art and particularly admires surrealism for its ability to make the extraordinary stand out in ordinary things, providing fresh perspectives.

This trend goes beyond traditional jewelry, expanding into frames for precious canvases adorned with elements like micro-mosaics, ancient intaglios, coins, or artifacts just like the latest collections at Hemmerle.

Jewelry Trend 2024: Food-Inspired Jewelry

Food-inspired jewels are a charming category of accessories inspired by different culinary delights. These special accessories take ideas from different foods and turn them into wearable art.

For example, Loquet’s pendants have cute apple and veggie charms. Silvia Furmanovich makes adorable mushroom earrings from hand-carved wood and colorful gemstones. Roxanne First’s necklace from the “Buon Appetito” collection looks like a bow-shaped pasta, giving an Italian dining feel. Jessica McCormack’s “Carmela” project shows swirling spaghetti pasta in diamonds and gold, mixing Italian food vibes with the style of mafia movie icons.

And there’s more – from earrings or pendants shaped like coffee cups, teapots, or coffee beans for coffee or tea lovers, to pieces with designs inspired by veggies like carrots, and tomatoes, or herbs like basil and mint, adding a touch of nature to your jewelry collection.
