Yemi Alade Injected The Beauty Of Cowrie Shells Into Her ‘Dancina’ Music Video

Yemi Alade is back.

The singer has finally dropped the music video for her latest single Dancina. With freestyle-inspired pidgin English lyrics to the electrifying dance performance from the singer, alongside a number of her talented dancers, Yemi Alade has solidified her place at the top of Afrobeat music and we are on the edge of our seats binge-watching the music video.

Of course, in true Yemi Alade style, the video is full of clips of the music star in a number of stylish outfits. As fans would expect, the fashion in the epic video is amazing — but we are particularly inspired by her cool transformation of the cowrie shells into wearable art. Never one to miss an opportunity to showcase her African culture, the 32-year-old draped herself in a stunning cowrie-crafted bra top, fringed skirt, and a headpiece. She transported herself back to the 80s and completed the costume with two Bantu knots hairstyle, along with dangle earrings and an elegant traditional necklace.

“Cowries From head To Toe For The CULTURE in #Dancina Video🔥 🔥 DANCINA VIDEO OuT NOW,” the singer captioned the photo on Instagram when she announced the release of the latest video yesterday.

It’s a unique and head-turning costume, however, and not only is the 32-year-old star embraced the true spirit of Mama Africa, but she also marched her gang of dancers down the street as they all clad in the matching attire to spotlight the beauty of cowrie shells. Bravo, Yemi.

And meanwhile, you can scroll back up to watch the video.
