It is exciting to announce that Lagos finally gets a moment on the Real Housewives franchise. Lagos is a buzzing city with so many entertainment and lifestyle attributes that form its basics. Amongst other things you may know about it, the city is a seat for some of the most influential and fashionable women in the country, and it’s so exciting to see these highlights in the reality TV show just released.

The affluent lives of six Nigerian women are chronicled in the “Real Housewives of Lagos.” The following celebrities make up the cast – Carolyna Hutchings, a businesswoman; Chioma Ikokwu, a lawyer and the owner of a luxury hair brand; Nollywood actress, Iyabo Ojo; Instagram influencer Laura, Ikeji-Kanu; PR specialist, Mariam Timmer, and celebrity stylist, Toyin Lawani-Adebayo.

The show, a franchise that is loved for its custom high-peaked luxury, fashion, and drama is graced by these unconventional women who in reality, have strong family and business alliances in Lagos.

Produced and promoted by livespot360, distributed by NBC Universal, and now streaming on Showmax, the show is said to be the 16th foreign adaptation of ‘The Real Housewives’ formula and the third African adaptation, following the success of “The Real Housewives of Johannesburg and Durban” on Showmax.

Candace Fangueiro, Showmax Africa’s head of programming, at the show’s premiere, stated; “The show will take each viewer on an emotional roller coaster as they get immersed in the lives of the women, their relationships, and their different journeys.”

Showmax teased its audience with the series by unveiling its cast on January 13, 2022, and the official trailer was posted on the Showmax YouTube channel on March 16, 2022. These teasers left the masses expectant of nothing short of ‘sizzling drama’ via the style and personalities of the selected cast. 

However, after back-to-back trending on Twitter, the show made its debut on the 8th of April, and subsequently, new episodes of the Real Housewives of Lagos will be aired live every Friday.

The show explores the rich culture of Africa’s largest megacity, Lagos through the eyes of six of the city’s most glamorous women. This includes a huge spotlight on the luxurious lifestyles of Lagos socialites, including shopping sprees, parties, travel, and competitiveness within their social circles.

On the night before its first airing, there was a huge and luxurious premiere in Sandton, South Africa. The event, hosted by South African television personality Bonang Matheba, saw the country’s brightest talents walk the pink carpet.

Carolyna, when asked what inspired her to join the show said she was already a fan of the franchise because she had seen some of its previous series, and she was overjoyed when she was asked to be a part of the cast. “… I was skeptical because the identities of the other housewives were not revealed to me. But then I looked forward to meeting women from various industries and cultures, women from whom I could learn about business and etiquette.”

Laura opines that to be a Real housewife of Lagos, you’ve got to be rich, famous, and glamorous in your circle while Carolyna maintains that the RHOLagos is a boss lady, with all-around positive vibes, who redefines all the stereotypes attached to being a housewife.
