Ejiro Amos Tafiri’s Spring 2020 Collection Wants Women Voices To Be Heard
Gender equality is never an ending topic of discussion across the globe. How do people stop the subjugation of women if their voices are not heard? This was the thought of Ejiro Amos Tafiri when she created her Spring 2020 collection.
The designer’s Spring 2020 collection dove deeper than the latest trends by speaking up for women and sending a message of hope with the tagline; “Pump up the Volume” on women’s voices.
With catchy slogans such as ‘My Voice My Armour,’ ‘Yes Yes’ and ‘No No’ in bold letters imprinted on the beautiful pieces, the brand says the collection was inspired by the need to speak up ‘against all forms of oppression.’
“Our SS20 collection is inspired by the recent global outcry for gender equality and the need for women’s voices to be heard,” the brand said in a statement. “The aim was to send a message of hope. We started this collection to lend our voice to this course, hence the theme “Pump up the Volume” on women’s voices. It is therefore inspired by the need to speak up against all forms of oppression.”
While handwoven indigenous fabric like Aso-Oke infused with laces, silks, chiffons, and satin was used throughout the collection, Ejiro Amos Tafiri offered a fun and multi-textured range of dresses with notice-me silhouettes (like voluminous sleeves) for women who want to be seen, heard, and powerful.
Each piece also comes with unique female names such as ‘Ayaba,’ ‘Asayan,’ ‘Imade,’ and ‘Ireti,’ etc. This is the right thing for the brand to do, especially at a time of economic and social upheaval. Keep scrolling to see all the looks.
