Just this weekend, the internet swooned over Naija’s screen artist, Kemi Adetiba, and her wedding to her Ghanaian heartthrob, Oscar Heman-Ackah. This event, is in fact, a sweet succession of Rita Dominic’s viral traditional wedding party. Excerpts from the #undeniablyyours2022 union suggest what seemed like a movie scene featuring exceptionally flamboyant African characters. In simple terms, Kemi and her guests made magic with their attires.
Kemi’s traditional wedding outfits witnessed deep aspects of her Ekiti, Efik, and Ghanaian heritage. Her first appearance was a stunning green ensemble created by designer extraordinaire, Toju Foyeh. The aso-oke gown, which paid respect to the bride’s Yoruba ancestry and featured crystals, beading, and more, was exquisite, but the bride’s excessively theatrical headwear by Urez Kulture stole the stage.
Photo Courtesy Her second outfit, a typical royal Efik regalia earned her the title “king of brides”. This emanated as a playful imitation of the title of one of Naija’s favorite movies, produced by her — ‘King of Boys’. Her crimson and gold Efik-themed look featuring all Efik bride accouterments was inspired by her maternal roots which are traced to Akwa Ibom State. Nigeria. Already, Kemi had established on Twitter some years ago that her mom is from Akwa Ibom.
Photo Courtesy Then, came her Ghanaian outfit, a perfect match with her husband’s and absolute evidence of her love association with the people of Ghana.
Photo Courtesy Sola Sobowale, the ‘King of Boys,’ with her vibes, elegance, and sparkle, was the mother of the day. Her genuinely happy presence was affirmed all over the internet owing to how much she supported Kemi on her big day.
The guest list featured multiple celebrity couples and it was a real joy to see. Guests danced all night long to hit performances by 2Baba, Adekunle Gold, Simi, and others.
Unlike other African weddings, Kemi’s didn’t have a specified fabric (Aso-Ebi) for attendees. They were given free rein on how they choose to interpret the theme; “Flamboyantly African.” Trust Nigerian and Ghanaian celebrities to bring their A-game in showing up some of the most African fashion elegant styles.
