The minimalist era is here again, you guys. You can tell me nothing; with the many audacious declarations of pantlessness on the runways? Pant-freedom has been adopted by many of our favorite celebs back in 2016.
However, the trend’s progress was gradual although its provocative strategy is nothing new in fashion books. This brings back memories of the 80s and 90s when slip dresses were the norm for outerwear. It even extends deeper into the 70s when everyone wore braless, offering a tribute to the style of clothing.
When celebrities like Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid, and Kylie Jenner were all spotted rocking outfits with no pants in sight in 2022, the no-pants trend started to gain traction in a variety of outfits, including bike shorts, sweatpants, pleated skirts, micro-minis, and a brief stint in the spotlight for baggy and denim jackets.
At the Fall/Winter and the Spring/Summer 2023 runways, the no-pants edict literally swept the fashion month and was received and adopted by brands like Miu Miu, Tom Ford, Coperni, Bottega Veneta, and more.
These days, some people dress up in blazers, while others wear large hoodies with biking shorts underneath. With the comeback of underwear as outerwear and many A-list stars repping the look, the no-pants look is now further consolidated and has become something we all can explore our confidence levels with.
Just in case you ain’t convinced yet, see celebrities who have persisted in demonstrating why wearing no pants is the ‘It trend’, moving forward.
Emily Ratajkowski
Stepping out to the Jonathan Simkai show, Emily paired her oversized black and crystal-embellished jacket—which had sleeves that were too long and a length that was almost too short—with merely a pair of thick black combat boots.
Nothing else was in view, not a pair of jeans, a shirt, or a bra. Letting the jacket make its statement, the model went minimal without accessories while opting for a middle-parted hairstyle that cascaded behind her shoulders.
Hailey Beiber
Being the epitome of pants freedom for a long time and even when the world gave the trend a grimace and quickly moved on, Hailey Bieber is frequently seen flashing her gams, whether she is posing for an editorial, appearing in a commercial, walking around New York City in the dead of winter, or simply meeting up with her pop star husband in Los Angeles.
The model, who debuted her now-shorter bob haircut earlier this year, was recently seen walking around NYC while sporting a slouchy oversized leather jacket, a black V-neck sweater over a long black top, white crew socks, black loafers, and her go-to shoulder bag.
Kendall Jenner
Kendall Jenner was photographed out and about shortly before the end of 2022, waiving pants in favor of a complete Bottega Veneta ensemble consisting of sheer tights, undergarments, and a cardigan while exiting a photo shoot.
She accessorized the look with sling-back shoes, a black handbag, earrings from the designer, and a massive bouquet of sunflowers.
Kylie Jenner
Kylie Jenner further stretched out the barrier between underwear and outerwear during the Loewe presentation during Paris Fashion Week by donning head-to-toe Loewe, including a pair of menswear-inspired white briefs with a Y-front, worn over sheer tights, and a long gray coat tossed on top. “No pants, no problem,” she captioned the photo she shared on Instagram.
Bella Hadid
Yeah, when we see our favorite street foodie, we recognize her. Bella Hadid was grabbing a bite while donning the itsy-bitsy sports shorts.
The Kin Euphorics proprietor pushed the bottoms up high on her hips to reveal her legs and gave the shorts a boy-brief underwear-like look. Bella wore an oversized Opening Ceremony Bonded Western Jacket with the comfy-casual getup, which she paired with a sick, vintage graphic tee from LEGO as the top.
To accessorize the look while keeping the sun off her eyes, she wore the Choppers Biker Sunglasses, which have a black and blue shield rim and a grey-tinted lens.
A modest tote purse, a Smooth Gold Dome Ring by Jacquie Aiche, and her favorite stretch comb headband completed the look. Supporting the look were her boots, oh, her bulky Ugg boots; the focal point of her ensemble.
Camila Mendes
Camila Mendes gave a nod to the no-pants trend during the Fall/Winter 2023 New York Fashion Week, demonstrating her understanding of taking risque risks with her attire.
The actress arrived at the event in a black-on-black lingerie ensemble, featuring a black bra, and micro-shorts layered under an oversized leather jacket, channeling Dark Academia cool with her chunky studded loafers and cat-eye sunglasses.
Emma Corrin
Emma Corrin walked the Miu Miu Fall 2023 runway show at Paris Fashion Week in a tiny pair of Kylie Minogue-approved gold hotpants, and one of the coolest haircuts of the moment, a bixie, and, of course, repping the ‘no-pants’ trend in the talks.
The look was rounded off with burnt orange satin mules and a black boxy quilted handbag. The actor’s signature choppy tresses were super short and platinum blonde, paired with a fresh-faced ‘no makeup’ look. So if you are growing tired of your pants trousers, allow these celebs to guide you.
