Haute Couture week has never been complete without Valentino closing the show. It’s either the Italian luxury brand deliver a showstopping collection or left the showgoers in tears with a dramatic display of fashion-as-art kind-of-show. Yesterday, there was no difference as the fall 2020 couture show came to a close.

Valentino gave fans a cinematic experience in Livestream coverage from the iconic Cinecittà Studios in Rome where the show was staged. Entitled “The Performance: of Grace and Light,” the runway was not the usual one as you’d expect but the creative director, Pierpaolo Piccioli partnered with photographer Nick Knight to create a theatrical and magical scene for which the new collection was showcased.

Models were captured in the mid-air, having suspended from the ceiling in their super lengthy and breathtaking confections mostly in white tones, which invited you to pay attention to every look that came down the runway. With the extreme silhouettes and volumes, Piccioli’s intention is not clear but according to the Italian designer, the collection is “an extreme response” to the tough circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 lockdown.

“I didn’t want to feel the limitations. Couture is made for emotions, dreams,” Piccioli told Vogue. “It was super-emotional for us all to be here together to win this challenge. A moment I will never forget.” Here, continue scrolling to check out the show for yourself.
