Christian Dior Resort 2021 Collection was revealed in a live-stream yesterday at the Piazza del Duomo in Lecce, a small province of Puglia in Italy. In the past, Dior is known for flying its models to numerous destinations such as Marrakech, Morocco, Calabasas, California, and the Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire, England. But this is the first collection creative director, Maria Grazia Chiuri who is from Rome, Italy ever offered consumers from a place close to her home.

According to the reports, the designer paid a tribute to the town, honoring the people’s tradition and culture.

“It’s important for the local people to understand the value of their tradition,” Chiuri told Vogue. “Probably the most important thing that I understood during these four years at Dior—in Paris they’re so proud about their tradition; fashion is part of their cultural heritage. But we don’t have the same attitude in Italy. Probably it’s because these traditions are made by women at home, so there’s this idea that it’s domestic work. They don’t think it’s creative work. They don’t give it the same value. They don’t celebrate it. With this show I hope to give a different point of view to the local people about that. It’s not only a dialogue with our audience outside, but it’s really a dialogue with the territory.”

In line with the culturally-inspired show, the venue was decorated with fanciful jewel-colored traditional luminaries followed with powerful phrases such as “Be A Leader Of Unguilt,” “We Rise By Lifting Others,” “Remember The First Time You Saw Her Name,” and “Wish Is Revolutionary Because It Seeks What Cannot Be Seen.” There was also the traditional Salento music played for both models and troupe dancers which a report says performed the modern interpretation of the pizzica, an Italian folk dance originally attributing to the people of Puglia.

As for the cruise collection, Maria also seemed to translate the culture into her pieces. The collection features 90 looks, all with impressive designs—from dresses with floral appliques and waist corsets to covetable accessories. Continue clicking to have a look at a few of the pieces.
