Pierpaolo Piccioli Has Been Named The New Creative Director of Balenciaga
Balenciaga has declared that Pierpaolo Piccioli will take the helm as the new Creative Director, succeeding Demna effective July 10th.
This transition marks a significant moment for the iconic fashion house, with Piccioli set to unveil his debut collection during the Spring 2026 season this October in Paris.
Taking on the role at a storied label such as Balenciaga is no small feat, and Piccioli has made it clear just how much he values the legacy he inherits.
Photo: Instagram/pppiccioli In a heartfelt statement, he expressed his profound gratitude to those who have come before him, particularly Demna, along with everyone who has contributed to turning Balenciaga into the formidable fashion house it is today.
He remarked, “What I am receiving is a brand full of possibilities that is incredibly fascinating.” This vision places him firmly at the intersection of history and innovation, a hallmark of Balenciaga’s approach throughout the years.
Piccioli’s acknowledgment of his predecessor signifies a thoughtful transition—“I couldn’t ask for a better passing of the torch,” he remarked, highlighting his desire to create a new narrative for the Maison.
In a striking moment of reflection, he revealed that his very first Instagram post was a tribute to a 1967 wedding look designed by Cristóbal Balenciaga, the house’s illustrious founder. While he downplayed the notion of “predestination,” Piccioli interpreted this coincidence as a serendipitous sign as he embarks on this new journey.

He praised Piccioli’s “creative vision” as one that will not only thrive in the current landscape, but also honor the illustrious legacy of Cristóbal Balenciaga.
Gianangeli believes that Piccioli will continue to build upon the house’s bold creativity, rich heritage, and strong culture, which have become synonymous with the Balenciaga name.
Piccioli’s extensive background undoubtedly positions him well for this prestigious role. After spending 25 years at Valentino, where he ascended to Creative Director before stepping down in 2024, he has garnered a reputation for pushing boundaries while remaining true to the essence of high fashion.
His tenure at Fendi further solidifies his credentials, showcasing his adaptability and vision in the competitive fashion industry.

This new direction aligns with Balenciaga’s history, particularly with its emphasis on innovative shapes and silhouettes that have shaped the landscape of women’s fashion.
While Demna resonated with a generation through radical reinvention, Pierpaolo Piccioli is anticipated to evolve Balenciaga’s identity further into the future. His approach is likely to blend modernity with the timeless elegance that Balenciaga embodies, inviting both loyal patrons and a new audience to appreciate the duality of past and present.
