At this point, it’s no more news that COVID-19 is a major global concern. While the healthcare workers who are risking their lives in the fight to save other people’s lives deserve applause, it’s not enough to thank others who are also making an impact by supporting and donating whatever they can to get rid of the pandemic.
Esé Azénabor, a Nigerian designer who’s based in the US is one of the many who’s making an impact in this challenging time through her namesake brand, Esé Azénabor Atelier. She creates breathtaking dresses and wedding gowns and has sent countless of happy brides down the aisle. But unfortunately, this season isn’t for dressmaking as the Dallas resident is now focussing on creating nose masks for hospitals.
“Hello, I am Esé Azénabor, our medical professionals are on the front line every min of this virus, and we need your help!,” Azénabor wrote on her social media. “We have already made over 1000 masks this week to donate to our local hospitals. It cost us a lot of funds and labor to produce the masks, although we love what we are doing, we believe it will be greater if we all banded together and HELP! We will like to produce a lot more masks.”
The designer is aiming to create up to 10,000 units of nose masks and according to her, doctors and nurses have resorted to using ‘bandanas or re-use masks’ for their protection due to shortages. She also added that calls and emails have been coming from all over the country from Hospitals in need of masks.
“Our Goal is 8,000 to 10,000 masks so that we can donate to hospitals locally and nationally especially New York, DC, and Houston,” she explained. “We have been receiving calls and emails from all over the country from Hospitals in need of masks. Our masks are made of 3 layers of 100% breathable cotton, a filter in the middle for better protection, there is also a pocket in each mask so that our medical professionals can insert their hospital-grade filters for an even better protection.”
However, with 188,592 cases and over 4,055 death recorded in the US as of the 31st March, it is clear why urgent help is needed. Here at Fashion Police Nigeria, we deeply applaud her heroic commitment. Bravo!
