If J’Lo had told you at that time when she wore the bare-it-all green Versace dress at the 42nd annual Grammy Awards in 2000, that the dress would make history – she’d certainly be kidding us.

After the glamouring event, the public hit the internet to search for the photos on Google, and unfortunately Google Images wasn’t in existence yet. The recent article by Google executive chairman Eric Schmidt reveals that the continous hunt for the buzzy J.Lo green dress is what ultimately inspired engineers to get moving on the new feature.

“At the time, it (the dress) was the most popular search query we had ever seen,” he writes. “But we had no surefire way of getting users exactly what they wanted: JLo wearing that dress. Google Image Search was born.”

Thanks to J.Lo and Donatella Versace for that dress. At least Google Images was born just because of you.
