Serena Williams Gets Real About Loving Your Body After Pregnancy

Serena Williams has a powerful message for self-love and body positivity.

In an Instagram post shared by the Tennis champion on Monday, February 12, Williams opened up about her journey of loving her body after pregnancy, shedding light on the importance of embracing oneself in all stages of life.

Williams began her post by emphasizing the significance of self-love as a constant practice. She acknowledged that loving oneself is not always easy, but it is essential for personal growth and happiness. The tennis icon revealed that she often has to remind herself of the importance of self-love, particularly during different phases in her life.

Currently, Williams is embracing and celebrating her post-baby body. She expressed her love for her imperfect body and the joy of discovering a new version of herself. Williams unapologetically admitted that her body is not “picture perfect” but highlighted her appreciation for the changes it has undergone after giving birth.

“Loving yourself is essential,” Willimas shared on Instagram. “I find that I have to remind myself of that self-love through all different stages in my life. Right now I love that my body is not picture perfect.”

She continued: “I love that I smell like milk – that milk sustains @adiraohanian I love getting to know a new version of my body. It is a change, but it’s a change that has been well worth it. So start this week, knowing that you are loved, and that starts with you.”

Accompanying the heartfelt message was a captivating photo of Williams on a yacht, wearing a textured halter-top style bikini. In the picture, she cradles her baby, Adira, in her arm. Adira, dressed in a teal T-shirt and pale yellow bloomers with a heart-shaped pattern, adds to the intimate and loving atmosphere of the photo.

Williams acknowledged that the changes her body has gone through post-pregnancy might be seen as different, but she firmly believes that these changes are worth it. The tennis star encouraged her followers to embrace self-love and emphasized that it is an ongoing journey.

Closing her Instagram post on a lighthearted note, Williams humorously mentioned that despite her heartfelt reflection, she was still planning to hit the gym. “Ok, now I’m about to go to the gym 🤪,” she added. This remark exemplified her commitment to staying fit and maintaining a healthy lifestyle while also encouraging self-love.

The birth of Adira, Williams’ second child with husband Alexis Ohanian, was confirmed in an Instagram post by Ohanian in August 2023. Ohanian expressed his gratitude for the arrival of their healthy and happy newborn daughter, emphasizing the love that now fills their household. Their first child, daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., was born in September 2017.

“Welcome, Adira River Ohanian,” Ohanian wrote at the time. “I’m grateful to report our house is teaming with love: a happy & healthy newborn girl and happy & healthy mama. Feeling grateful. @serenawilliams you’ve now given me another incomparable gift — you’re the GMOAT.”
