Margot Robbie’s Little Black Balmain Dress Pays a Tribute to the Vintage Barbie
As award season continues, Margot Robbie never fails to make a statement on the red carpet. Known for her daring fashion choices and impeccable style, Robbie has been channeling her inner Barbie with her recent appearances.
At the 35th Producers Guild of America Awards, the Australian actor and producer donned a little black dress that paid homage to the iconic Mattel doll.
Robbie’s LBD was pulled from the Balmain Pre-Fall 2024 collection and expertly tweaked by her stylist, Andrew Mukamal. The result was a deconstructed suit-inspired dress that exuded vintage Barbie vibes.
The off-the-shoulder minidress featured a plunging neckline, accentuated by a thick white accent strip along the hem. The sharply flared skirt mirrored the shape of the top of the dress, creating a cohesive and visually pleasing silhouette.
To complete the look, Robbie opted for a matching black trapezoidal clutch from Hunting Season and sleek jet-black heels. Adding a touch of glamour, she accessorized with a silver princess necklace adorned with large diamonds. The overall effect was undeniably elegant and chic, showcasing Robbie’s impeccable taste and understanding of fashion.
What set Robbie’s dress apart was the clever alteration that she incorporated to give it a modern twist. The original design of the dress did not feature the additional lapels along the breast, but Robbie’s stylist added them to tone down the plunging neckline for the Producers Guild Awards.
Upon closer inspection, one can observe that the two sides are stitched together, creating a seamless integration of the new lapels. Additionally, a tiny keyhole of sheer fabric was introduced in the center, further enhancing the dress’s allure.
From the commencement of her media tour promoting Barbie, Margot Robbie has consistently chosen attire reminiscent of renowned looks from the iconic doll. This particular ensemble maintains that precedent.
Though not precisely mirroring any singular outfit from Barbie’s expansive wardrobe, it harks notably to elements derived from “After 5” Barbie of 1962 – modeled with a miniature black dress that shares remarkable similarities in both its A-line skirt design and contrasting white lapels. It appears confirmation is at hand regarding the seemingly infinite wellspring of inspiration found within Barbie’s esteemed fashion history.
