The style expectation is usually very high when the head of a nation is on a diplomatic mission. And Kamala Harris, the Vice President of the United States of America didn’t disappoint when she arrived in Accra, the capital city of Ghana at the start of her week-long tour of three West African countries.
Championing Western fashion, the VPOTUS landed at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra on Sunday (March 26, 2023) in a well-tailored suit that comes in chic monochrome colorways of gray and white teamed with coordinated pair of pointed court shoes. We are loving the genius blend of gray and white, which was complemented perfectly with her signature brown tousled waves.
She was surrounded by high-security intelligence and was given a warm welcome by the beaming people of Ghana, alongside a dancing troupe showcasing their festive cultural dance. Harris was also seen giving handshakes to the children who were more than excited to meet the US Vice President.
“The energy and creativity of Ghana’s young leaders will shape the future of Africa – and the world,” says the 58-year-old highest-ranking female official in U.S. history while captioning the video of her visit to Ghana.
Harris, who made history as the first woman, the first Black American, and the first Asian American to occupy the office when she was sworn in as the 49th U.S. Vice President on January 20, 2021, later switched to another look — but this time a vibrant purple suit to have an official portrait with Ghana’s President, Nana Akufo-Addo.
Her ensemble was polished and modern but a departure from the traditional African tailoring of the country she visited, yet still managed to showcase the diverse vibrant colors and culture of the continent. Her choices aligned with the message she shared during her visit to Ghana, in which she said she wants to promote “‘increasing investments,’ the ‘economic empowerment’ of women, girls, and young businesspeople, ‘digital inclusion’ and food security in light of mounting challenges from climate change.”
