Beauty trends showcased on runways often foreshadow upcoming major trends, unlike the fleeting nature of social media aesthetics.
Therefore, every season, beauty enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the Fall 2024 New York Fashion Week not only for the latest fashion trends but also for a preview of the hottest glam, manicures, and hairstyles before they dominate social media platforms.
This season’s New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2024, which commenced on Feb. 9, has made a grand entrance, signaling a departure from the subdued “no-makeup-makeup” looks and casual hairstyles of the past.
Bold makeup choices and intricate hairstyles have taken center stage again, as evidenced by notable shows such as Marc Jacobs, which featured a glamorous aesthetic reminiscent of Diana Ross, and Helmut Lang’s nod to ’90s grunge with smoky eye makeup.
Ahead, we’ve put together some of the standout hair and makeup trends emerging from New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2024.
Hair Trends At The New York Fashion Week
Voluminous Hairdos
The trend for larger-than-life hair is at its peak, and we’re fully embracing the extravagant allure. At the Marc Jacobs runway, models showcased voluminous hairstyles reminiscent of disco-era glam, drawing inspiration from icons like Diana Ross and The Supremes, courtesy of hairstylist Duffy.
Meanwhile, at The Blonds show, Unilever stylist and renowned celebrity hair artist Lacy Redway opted for an avant-garde approach. A standout style featured a lavish half-up, half-down look with bounce and volume.
To achieve this extravagant hairstyle, Redway utilized an array of TRESemmé products, including the Keratin Smooth Weightless Fortifying Heat Protection Spray, One Step Blowout Cream, Extra Hold Mousse, Extra Hold Hairspray, and Keratin Smooth Weightless Silky Shine Spray.
Hair Accessories
The runway has been witnessing a surge in decorative hairdos, extending beyond the conventional headbands or barrettes. At Christian Siriano’s show, hairstylist Redway introduced the concept of a “celestial box bun,” elevating the square updo with a playful, futuristic touch by embellishing it with gold flecks.
Achieving the metallic look involved applying gold leaf pieces onto the bun using TRESemmé Mega Control Gel and setting them with the new Dyson Supersonic r, utilizing the flyaway attachment in high airflow and low heat settings.
To enhance the shine, the finishing touch included the application of Smooth Weightless Silky Shine Spray.
Collina Strada took a unique approach to hair decor by introducing chic hair tattoos. Bumble and Bumble’s global artistic ambassador, Evanie Frausto, crafted these ultra-cool hair tattoos by cutting small ribbons of hair and saturating them with Bb. Gel.
Each ribbon was meticulously shaped into Collina Strada star designs on one side and fairy wings on the other. After placing the hair tattoos, Frausto layered Holding Spray on top and diffused the area until fully dry, securing everything in place with Strong Finish Hairspray.
Laquan Smith’s NYFW presentation also introduced an unexpected hair accessory: the number two pencil. Inspired by the strength and glamour of female power brokers, certain looks were accentuated with well-placed pencils, adding a playful nod to office culture.
Celebrity hairstylist Lacy Redway translated this inspiration into a series of sculpted buns, braids, and slicked shortcuts, creating versatile styles suitable for both the runway and everyday wear
Equestrian Chic Ponytail
Stylist Jawara ingeniously navigated the terrain of Western equestrian culture, transforming hair into a flawlessly relaxed yet chic double-knotted ponytail. To achieve this look, models with straighter hair textures were treated to a textured lift using the Fekkai Clean Stylers Volume Lock Hairspray, ensuring each knot boosted volume and dimension.
For those sporting straight-back cornrows, stylists pampered the scalp with the nourishing Fekkai Shea Butter Intense Oil, infusing hydration and imparting a radiant shine. Subsequently, the braids were deftly twisted into the signature double-knotted ponytail, seamlessly blending the elegance of equestrianism with modern flair.

Bold, Grunge-inspired Eye Makeup
In Helmut Lang’s fall/winter collection, lead makeup artist Daniel Sallstrom, collaborating with M.A.C. Cosmetics, drew inspiration from the elements.
He envisioned the aftermath of impeccably done makeup encountering unpredictable weather, embracing nature’s influence on the meticulously crafted look. The result? A prevalent theme of dragged-out, super-smudged eyes, exuding distinct ’90s grunge aesthetics.
Meanwhile, at PatBo, Stila Cosmetics’ global beauty director, Charlie Riddle, skillfully juxtaposed “satin skin” with a bold smoky eye. Achieved using Stila’s Smudge Pot on the lash line, combined with liquid eyeliner and layers of black mascara, the look delivered a striking contrast.
Jason Wu’s fall/winter beauty aesthetic embraced dual glamor: a captivating gold eyeshadow moment and an oversized black feathered eye, exuding a distinct grunge vibe. For the latter, models adorned Jason Wu Beauty’s Jewel Stick in Solid Black across the eyelids, smudged outward, and finished with mascara.
Glass Skin
Pat McGrath, making a splash during Paris Couture Fashion Week, introduced the beauty world to a mesmerizing glass skin makeup look, akin to a porcelain doll, crafted for Maison Margiela. Unsurprisingly, this ethereal, dewy aesthetic has swiftly made its mark at NYFW.
During Christian Siriano’s showcase, the pro-artistry team from Charlotte Tilbury skillfully blended layers of the brand’s Beauty Light Wand (in Goldgasm, Pillow Talk Medium, and Spotlight) and Hollywood Glow Glide Face Architect Highlighter (in Gilded Glow) onto models’ cheekbones and foreheads, achieving a stunning and radiant finish.
Additionally, at Puma, makeup artist Isamaya Ffrench echoed this glass skin trend with a similar luminous and flawless look.
Rosy Blush Dominance
From the runways of New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2024, one lesson reigns supreme: there’s no limit to the allure of blush. This season, it’s the vibrant Barbie pink blush that commands attention.
Elyse Reneau, Too Faced’s executive director of global beauty, curated a striking look at Alice + Olivia, adorning models with Cloud Crush Blush in Candy Crush. Paired with baby blue eyeshadow and fluttery lashes, it exuded a nostalgic 1960s vibe, reminiscent of the era’s iconic beauty.
Similarly, at the Cucculelli Shaheen show, pink blush took center stage. Makeup artist Moani Lee opted for a variety of hues from the Kjaer Weis Cream Blush range, including Happy, Reverence, and Sun Touched, achieving a radiant, flushed complexion.
Mod Revival
Embracing a mod revival, the makeup maestros at New York Fashion Week curated captivating looks that echoed iconic inspirations.
At Marc Jacobs, drawing inspiration from Diana Ross, makeup artist Diane Kendal orchestrated a daring aesthetic. Faux lashes, ingeniously coated with black nail polish, yielded a “cloggy,” spidery allure. Complemented by black eyeliner and black duo glue, the result was an intensified density that truly captivated us.
Son Jung Wan’s showcase witnessed a ’60s homage, as Marc Reagan, Bobbi Brown’s global pro artist, seamlessly blended mod aesthetics with new-wave French vibes. The focal point? An elongated eye is achieved through meticulous liner application and voluminous mascara.
Alice + Olivia took a nostalgic turn with major Twiggy vibes. Elyse Reneau, Too Faced’s executive director of global beauty, ingeniously translated pop art into wearable makeup. The ’60s-inspired doll eyes, adorned with bright blue eyeshadow (specifically shades Bless Your Tart and Milk It from the Better Than Chocolate Palette), paid homage to the iconic era with a modern twist.
Shimmery Lips
As one of the standout beauty trends at New York Fashion Week 2024, makeup artist Diane Kendal captivated audiences with shimmering red lips, accentuating Joseph Altuzarra’s latest collection. Using Laura Mercier’s Longwear Lip Liner in Crimson, Kendal crafted a mesmerizing look that exuded timeless elegance and sophistication.
The vibrant crimson hue added a bold and captivating touch to the models’ lips, perfectly complementing Altuzarra’s chic and contemporary designs. With its long-lasting formula and rich pigment, the lip liner effortlessly enhanced the natural beauty of the lips, leaving a lasting impression on the runway.
