Antonin Tron Has Been Appointed the New Creative Director of Balmain
Balmain has appointed Antonin Tron as its new creative director, following the unexpected departure of Olivier Rousteing. This change comes just a few days after Rousteing’s exit, marking a significant transition for the storied French house that he has helmed for 14 years.
Rousteing’s tenure was historically pivotal; he was the first Black designer to lead a major French luxury brand, and under his direction, Balmain achieved global acclaim, becoming synonymous with bold, glamorous designs. To step into these substantial shoes is no small feat, but Tron appears ready for the challenge.
“I am deeply honoured to be joining Balmain, and grateful to Mr. Rachid and Matteo for entrusting me with this extraordinary House,” Tron stated in his inaugural remarks following the announcement on November 12. He acknowledged Rousteing’s influence, saying, “I wish to express my gratitude to Olivier Rousteing for building Balmain into the global brand it is today.”

Before his appointment at Balmain, Antonin Tron made waves in the fashion industry with his brand Atlein, founded in 2016. His work quickly captured attention, culminating in him receiving the First Collections Prize at the prestigious 2018 ANDAM Awards. Tron’s innovative approach typically involved transforming everyday materials, such as jersey, through a high-fashion lens.

Atlein’s last fashion show for the fall/winter 2025 season showcased designs that echo the elevated casual wear direction made popular by Rousteing, linking the two designers and suggesting a smooth transition for the brand during this period of change.
As Balmain welcomes Anton Tron into its fold, the fashion world watches closely. His fresh perspective, coupled with a profound respect for the heritage of the brand, sets the stage for a new beginning while honouring the legacy built by Olivier Rousteing. Expect to see how Tron’s vision evolves at one of the top luxury fashion firms, poised to redefine elegance, boldness, and craftsmanship in the coming seasons.
