Regardless of your personal style, most of us were taught to wear white on our wedding day. But when it comes to selecting a wedding dress for her big day, SA-based fashion designer, Rina Chunga of Rich Factory didn’t settle on any old rule that a bride looks more angelic in white, rather, she embraced the colors of her preference. Rina, as an African contemporary designer, created a beautiful, strapless pink dress infused with African prints for herself, saying her vision was all about African royalty, elegance, and fun.
“I think I’m most thankful for everyone around me always allowing me to be me,” Rina wrote on her social media page. “Sometimes you do need people to you the freedom to be yourself. My vision for my dress was African royalty, elegance, and fun. Structural but whimsical & where would I be without my happy color (pink). I found this gorgeous magenta fabric after searching for months.”
She also explained how she found her dream hair accessories for the occasion. “I knew I wanted to wear my hair natural and I obviously needed a gown and flowers,” she wrote. “I wore my Mukunda gifted from my mother-in-law to incorporate my Venda husband’s tradition too…this is exactly what I wanted to like for my big day.”
A skim through the wedding images, you could see Rina Chunga was beaming with joy wearing her dream dress that she paired with matching accessories but that was just the beginning. While most grooms would definitely die for a white suit and black pants on a wedding day, Rina’s husband was another eclectic soul. Rather than opting for something conventional, the bearded groom was dripping in colorful prints.
Rina was also able to induct her father into the world of pink — just look at the old man representing the romantic hue.
And did we mention her cake was out of the ordinary too? “Then there was our cakes,” she wrote. “As eclectic and colorful as Dino and I, thank you Mmathabo from @poachedfig for this stunning cake and for letting me have some fun with my different elements. It was absolutely delicious and Dino and I are going to eat the top tear this weekend and get nice and around.”
At this point, all we can say is Rina’s wedding was romantic, laid-back, and non-traditional to the core. Congratulations are in order.
