Yay! It’s Monday, and we’re excited to welcome you to a stylish new week. With the new week already upon us, there shouldn’t be any panic for those of us looking for sophisticated style skills needed to grab that dream job that you’re always hunting for.
Landing a dream job does not only require your knowledge and intellectual ability, to us, after leaning the right things to say in front of your new boss there are other key factors you need to master before getting the job.
As our friends at Who What Wear got their resident stylist and creative director of Banana Republic, Marissa Webb to share her wisdom on the style skills every woman should master in order to land her dream job, we’re to totally agreed with her.
Marrisa started by reminding us that “Often we learn these skills while on the job,” “But that doesn’t mean that there aren’t a few skills worth mastering before you ever walk through the door!”
#1. Be Work-Appropriate. But Show Your Personality Too:
Understand what is work appropriate for your industry, but find subtle ways to stand out and show your unique personality.
#2. Only Wear What You Feel Most Confident In:
If we don’t feel comfortable in our clothes, it really shows in the way we carry ourselves. Figure out what makes you feel extra confident, and stick to it.
#3. Put Your Own Spin On The Power Suit:
Master the power suit! And don’t put limitations on it; it doesn’t have to be a boring black suit that you hate. You should love it and feel confident in it. Add your own interesting accents to make the look yours.
#4. Make Sure You Own A Chic Tote:
Learn how to mask all the unattractive things we need to carry back and forth to work. (Those fabulous “bag spills” you see in magazines don’t really exist.) Look for a fun, chic tote that adds to your look.
#5. Master Pulling Everything Together In A Hurry:
Learn how to pull it together quickly for the days when you’re short on time. Think about the go-to items you know will always come to your rescue. Blazers are consistently my go-to; I toss them over almost anything for polish.
#6. Learn How To Walk In Heels The Right Way:
Learn how to walk in heels! They might not be something you wear to work every day, but if a time comes when you need to dress up, it’s a lot easier if you have already mastered the skill of walking in them.
