Oil Stain On Expensive Cloth Can Be Annoying: How to Get Rid of Grease and Oil Stains Effortlessly

Shirt-stain-400
There is nothing as annoying as when you get grease and oil stains on your clothes, seats and other surfaces and appliances in the home. Oil and grease stains are ugly and can damage surfaces really badly if not cleaned on time. In as much as they are annoying, they cannot be prevented. Grease and oil stains are tricky to get rid of but the fact is that they can be removed.

There is therefore no need to throw away clothes and fabrics that have these stains when you can remove the stains and get them back looking new. The first thing that you should do when you get a grease or oil stain is to try and get as much of it off the fabric as you possibly can by scrapping it off carefully. As you scrape off the grease ensure that you pay attention so that you do not end up ruining your outfit.
The next thing to do is to get a paper towel and try rubbing off the grease or oil. Do this until the paper towel does not have any oil or grease residue on it after rubbing the stain surface. Once this is done, sprinkle some corn starch on the stain. If you do not have this, baby powder will also work perfectly in place of the corn starch. Salt or even flour can be used when the two are not available. Let the powder or starch set on the stain for about ten minutes.
Once the corn starch or baby powder has set in, try to slowly remove it with the softest brush you can find. Do this carefully so as not to spread the corn starch to other parts of the fabric where there are no stains. If you cannot find a soft brush, you can use a paper towel. After this, drop a few drops of dish-washing liquid on the stain then add a little water and work the stain with your thumb and forefinger until it comes off. You can resort to using the soft brush that you had used before by brushing the stained part in a circular motion softly. This should be done on both sides of the stained area of the fabric.
When you are done with the stain, you can wash the item as you normally wash it and dry it under the recommended conditions. Avoid drying the item in the dryer even if the washing instructions say so until you are absolutely sure that the stain is completely gone. You can lay the item flat on the ground or hang it on a clothing line to dry. When working with very soft fabrics such as silk, it is best to take them to professionals than risk ruining the fabric. It is also very important to always wear protective clothing when working with oil and grease and keeping them very far away in a safe place when not using them.
