Bras are the most important thing in a woman’s wardrobe. Bras that fit correctly improve your posture, flatter your body, boost confidence, and most of all, are comfortable. But statistics say that 85 per cent of women are wearing the wrong bra size. The most common reason for ill-fitting bras is you have had the same ones for far too long. Changes to your body – anything from weight gain/loss to having a baby have a big effect on how your bra fits, yet we still keep the same bra for years.
See seven signs you might be wearing the wrong bra size and be on your way to a better fitted experience:
Any part of the bra leaves marks on your skin
You shouldn’t see indentations. If the band digs into you – making your skin bulge or leaving red marks, it’s too tight. Alternatively, if the underwire is digging into your skin, the cup is too small.
The cups are bumpy
If you are seeing bumps in your bra, this is easily seen when wearing a t-shirt, the reason is the bra cups are too big. The excess fabric wrinkles up and can create lumps.
The straps slide off your shoulders
Those straps should stay put. This is a common problem that is easily overlooked. The straps on your bra are important to how the entire piece fits you. If your straps are slipping off your shoulders, it is most likely that you just haven’t adjusted them to the proper fit. Wear them tight enough to support well, but not to the point that they dig into your skin. If you are still having issues with the straps sliding off, it may be that the straps are stretched out from too much wear, and you just need a new bra.
The center of the bra doesn’t rest against your skin
You don’t want any gaps. If the center of the band lifts up off your skin, the cups of the bra are too small. This is one of the most common problems. Moving up a cup size should fix the problem, but since no two bodies are alike, sometimes the style of the bra can be the culprit. Try finding a better fitting style if moving up a size doesn’t do the trick.
The band isn’t parallel to the ground
The back of the band should be a straight line across your back and parallel to the ground. If it is curving up your back, you most likely have your straps pulled too tight. It could also mean your band is too big and you need to move down a size. It should be easy to determine which of these is causing the problem.
Overflowing cup
When it runneth over. If any breast tissue is spilling out of the top or sides of the cup – even just a little bit – you definitely need to move up a cup size. The cup of your bra should completely contain all of your breast tissue.
It hurts
Get rid of it! If your bra is causing pain, then it definitely isn’t the right fit. Often times ladies think that there is no avoiding being uncomfortable in a bra, but that isn’t the case at all. A well-fitting bra should be comfortable enough that you don’t notice it at all. Figuring out which style best suits your body, and finding the right fit should fix this for good.
