It’s an inspiring news to see the fashion industry opting for more than one definition of beauty these days. During the NYFW in February, it was amazing to see over 9 models with disability walking the runway successfully. Today the same breakthrough has located Rebekah Marine, a 28-year-old model with an i-limb quantum prosthetic hand that will walk in New York Fashion Week on Sept. 13 in the FTL Moda show.
Just like every other ambitious girl, Rebekah had always wanted to be a model, but following the fact that she came to the world without a right forearm, she was told at a young age that she wouldn’t have a future in modeling, as reported by Mashable. Though it wasn’t an easy journey for Rebekah, but she never gave up her dream. After fitted for a more advanced prosthetic hands made with gesture control technology four years ago, the inspiring model broke out from the down syndrome to pursue her modelling ambition and as well inspire others with disability. The good news? Rebekak’s dream came to pass as she was embraced by the fashion industry, and we’re so excited.
Rebekah told Mashable, “It’s so important to include more diverse models, because after all, nearly one in five people in America have a disability.” She added, “We should be celebrating uniqueness, not conforming to what the media thinks is beautiful.”
For the record, Marine was among the 9 models that walked in February’s NYFW, she has also shot with Nordstrom for its 2015 anniversary catalog and we’ll be seeing her walking this September.
