Serena Williams Calls Out Her “Haters” Who Claimed She Bleached Her Skin

In a powerful display of self-acceptance and defiance, tennis legend Serena Williams has come forward to address and deny rumors claiming that she has bleached her skin.

During an intimate Instagram Live session on December 2, Williams seized the moment to confront her “haters,” making it clear that she is proud of her natural complexion. The conversation began when Williams shared a video from a recent school event where she and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, were supporting their daughters, 7-year-old Olympia and 15-month-old Adira.

Viewers noticed a change in her skin tone, prompting unfounded accusations of skin bleaching. Williams, known for her outspoken nature, took the opportunity while conducting a makeup tutorial for her cosmetic line, Wyn Beauty, to dispel these claims.

“And then I put just that neutral color, that is actually my skin color, and no, for you haters out there, I do not bleach my skin,” she asserted confidently. She further explained that fluctuations in skin tone can occur due to various factors, including sunlight exposure.

Williams went beyond simply denying the allegations; she emphasized her pride in being a dark, Black woman. “Yes, I’m calling you out on this because it is ridiculous,” she said, sending a strong message about self-love and acceptance. The tennis star confidently stated, “I love who I am, and I love how I look,” reinforcing that altering her natural appearance is “just not my thing.”

This episode serves as a profound reminder of the challenges faced by public figures, particularly women of color, in navigating societal pressures and unfounded criticisms about their appearance.

She has always been candid about her journey concerning beauty standards and personal care. Just a few months earlier, she shared an Instagram video of herself undergoing a radio-frequency treatment to enhance her body confidence.

“Being ok to take time for myself is something I have always struggled with,” she wrote in the post, revealing her vulnerability as a mother of two while highlighting the importance of self-care.

In the video, viewers could see Williams lying relaxed on a treatment table, showcasing her commitment to reclaiming her body and confidence post-pregnancy. “I have been self-conscious of my tummy,” she admitted, adding that the procedure was a part of a girls’ trip, reinforcing her belief in the need for time dedicated to self-love.

In her message, she acknowledged that while her body may change, her love for her two daughters remains unwavering. “I can see progress with my skin going back to normal and my confidence coming back,” she shared, conveying a sense of hope and positivity.

“Listen, my body will never be the same, but neither will I cause I have 2 amazing lights in my life,” she concluded, further emphasizing the transformative journey of motherhood and personal acceptance.
