Selena Gomez has always been an open book when it comes to her personal life, but her recent revelations about her relationship with music producer Benny Blanco add a new chapter to her story.
On the August 7 episode of the podcast Therapuss with Jake Shane, Gomez shared the intriguing origin story behind her connection with Blanco, which dates back to when she was just 16 years old. As budding artists in the music industry, they initially met with the intent of collaborating, but their plans did not materialize at the time, and they merely regarded each other as acquaintances.

I just thought he was nice.” Despite their limited interactions, the duo did manage to create some memorable music together, including hits like “Same Old Love” and “I Can’t Get Enough” featuring Tainy and J Balvin. However, Gomez admitted that there was no romantic interest at that time, mentioning, “I just thought he was funny, but I didn’t think anything of it.”
Fast-forward to their latest collaboration on the track “Single Soon,” which was released in 2023. Gomez shared her honest thoughts about the project, revealing that it wasn’t her favorite. “I can say this because I’m marrying him,” she joked. “It just really wasn’t what I thought I wanted.” However, this second chance meeting in the studio turned out to be pivotal for their relationship.
She recounted an amusing encounter with Blanco during a recording session: “He just came in and I was like, ‘Oh, hi, Benny,’ and we spoke for two hours.” In a lighthearted twist, Gomez requested Blanco to set her up with someone cute, to which he responded with an invitation to join his dinner nights. “Next thing you know, we’re dating,” she added, capturing the essence of how friendships can blossom into something deeper.

She recounted Blanco’s initial apprehension, noting, “He was terrified in the beginning because it was work and it’s combining, and people are going to get mad. And I’m like, ‘I don’t give a shit. Kiss me.’” This moment highlights Gomez’s free-spirited approach to love, emphasizing her desire to prioritize their connection over potential complications.
As the conversation evolved, Gomez also shared her thoughts about their romantic relationship, particularly the prospect of marriage. “I couldn’t be more excited,” she exclaimed, signaling her enthusiasm and commitment.
However, she tempered her excitement by clarifying that their wedding is not on the immediate horizon. “There’s so much happening at the moment. He’s working on some projects that he has to wrap up, and we just have things we want to finish and our own personal endeavors before we get into all the nitty-gritty. I just have really never felt so sure about something, and I also don’t want to jinx it by saying that.”
