Rihanna’s fashion and beauty brands have joined the thousands of black people around the world to protest against racial inequality and injustice toward the black community. The protest, which has been a global topic since last week following the death of George Floyd, an African-American man who was killed by a white cop, is getting stronger day by day. Many prominent people have spoken about and supporting the on-going protest, including companies and organizations lending voices that enough is enough to racism.
As a brand, which was set up to close the diversity gap (at least to some extent) in the fashion and beauty industry, Rihanna Fenty fashion and beauty conglomerate has released a statement, declaring today Tuesday a non-operational day for Fenty business globally. According to the cosmetics brand, ‘this is not a day off but a ‘day to reflect and find ways to make real change.’
We are not staying silent and we are not standing by. The fight against racial inequality, injustice, and straight-up racism doesn’t stop with financial donations and words of support. In solidarity with the Black community, our employees, our friends, our families, and our colleagues across industries we are proud to take part in #BlackoutTuesday. FENTY will NOT be conducting any business on Tuesday, June 2 – globally. This is not a day off. This is a day to reflect and find ways to make real change. This is a day to #PullUp.
Apart from that, Rihanna has also announced through the brand that she will be donating funds to support the Color of Change and Movement for Black Lives. “FENTY as a brand was created to elevate beauty, power, and freedom!” she said in a statement. “At this very moment racists are attempting to rip those values away from black people and we will NOT stand by and let that happen. We are too powerful, creative, and resilient. In support of the black community, we will be donating funds to Color of Change and Movement for Black Lives. We ask you to speak up, stand up, and pull up against racism and discrimination in all forms.”
In support of the movement, thousands of people across social media have also declared today a #BlackoutTuesday, bombarding their feeds with blank black photos.
Three days ago, Rihanna reacted over the lynching of George Floyd. She took to Instagram to express her anger and calling for the end to racism.
