According to the statistics released by the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS), rising body positivity does not equate to lowering levels of plastic surgery.
In fact, body positivity could even be normalizing the idea of plastic surgery. The idea is to love your body, whether natural or enhanced, with plastic surgery. It is your body, your choice. One of the rising trends is rhinoplasty, and there has been a rise in searches for rhinoplasty procedures that are safe and successful.
Unfortunately, there is another parallel movement, the movement to continually become better, matching the body, image, and makeup to match whatever is trending at the time. Let’s hope that eventually, body positivity takes over this constant striving to mirror celebrities and influencers.

These statistics were released by the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and detail the popularity of plastic surgery procedures by country.
According to the report, the USA tops the chart, contributing 17.9% of the global amount of registered plastic surgery procedures. Brazil comes in second, but trails far behind the USA, providing 10.7% to the worldwide amount. Coming in third place is Japan, with a percentage of 4.8%. Together, Brazil and the USA contribute almost a third of the world’s global amount of plastic surgery procedures.

According to this report, Breast Augmentation is the most performed cosmetic procedure– 15,8% of all procedures are Breast Augmentations. Next up on the list is Liposuction, accounting for 14% of all procedures.
Getty Images Eyelid surgery comes in at third place (12.9%) with Rhinoplasty and Abdominoplasty coming in fourth and fifth place, respectively. Not all plastic surgery procedures saw an increase, though. Penile enlargement experienced a decrease of as much as -28% in the number of procedures.
We are living in a time when the attitude towards how a woman looks, personal body image as well as how they are judged is changing. Plastic surgery and having a healthy relationship with your body do not need to be separate concepts. However, companies and businesses will still market by shaming and making you feel like you are less than you are.
