Once again, the biggest names in Hollywood will gather to celebrate the best of the best at the 95th Academy Awards. Literally, it will be another epic moment for red carpet glitz and glam where our favorite celebrities dress to the nines in their designer garb. The atmosphere at the Oscars is usually electric, with photographers flashing their cameras left, right, and center and spectators roaring on their favorites who have received the coveted golden statuette.
The Oscars are the oldest and one of the most prestigious awards in the film industry, recognizing excellence in various categories such as Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Actress, and many more. The 95th Academy Awards will celebrate nearly a century of outstanding cinema, with a ceremony that, according to Academy CEO Bill Kramer, will commemorate both the year’s top movies and this significant milestone.
In his words, “The energy around the show should feel like a massive celebration of cinema and the awards — our legacy, our artists, our movies, our future,” he said. “The 95th gives us a great opportunity to knit together the incredible legacy of the Oscars, the diverse and powerful work we do across the Academy, and our vision for the future,”
When and where is the 95th Oscars ceremony?
The Oscars were previously held in March or April before the Academy shifted the event to February in the early 2000s. Last year was the first time the event was held in March, and it is happening again this year.
The Live broadcast will be on March 12, 2023, and will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, as it has every year since 2001. Live broadcasts of the ceremony will also be available in more than 200 countries and on ABC.
Who’s hosting the ceremony?
American talk show host Jimmy Kimmel is back as a host for a third time after his performance in 2017 and 2018, joining Steve Martin, Jerry Lewis, and David Niven as hosts who have served in that capacity three times each.
According to a joint statement from Academy CEO and President, Bill Kramer, and Janet Yang, “Jimmy is the perfect host to help us recognize the incredible artists and films of our 95th Oscars. His love of movies, live TV expertise, and ability to connect with our global audiences will create an unforgettable experience for our millions of viewers worldwide. With Kimmel, Weiss, and Kirshner’s fresh perspective and masterful guidance, the Oscars will celebrate its rich 95-year history, the collaborative nature of moviemaking, and our diverse, dynamic, and deeply creative community of filmmakers.”
“Being invited to host the Oscars for a third time is either a great honor or a trap, Either way, I am grateful to the Academy for asking me so quickly after everyone good said no.”, Kimmel said in a statement following the announcement.
