Lupita Nyong’o and Her Cat Yoyo Dressed Up in Red for Christmas

It’s Christmas day, and Lupita Nyong’o has warmed the hearts of her fans with a charming holiday photo featuring her beloved cat, Yoyo.

The celebration, which took place on December 25, offered a glimpse into Nyong’o’s festive spirit as she embraced the holiday season alongside her furry friend. Taking to Instagram early in the morning, Nyong’o spread cheer with a heartfelt message, captioning her post, “Merry Christmas from #YOYOYYO!!! 🐈🌲🌟.”

The picture showed the Black Panther actress in a vibrant red Christmas shirt embellished with playful plush prints. Nyon’go’s bond with Yoyo blossomed when she adopted the cat in October 2023, amidst a challenging emotional period following her breakup with ex-boyfriend Selema Masekela. The Oscar winner reflected on their relationship, and fondly remarked on Instagram, “It may look like I saved Yoyo, but really, Yoyo is saving me.”

She further recounted her journey of transitioning back to a normal life, explaining, “When I was going through a hard time, I just had a little voice saying, ‘Get a cat,’ and I got a cat. I have not regretted it.” This heartfelt sentiment amplifies the profound connection that has developed between the actress and her feline companion, illustrating how Yoyo has played a pivotal role in her emotional recovery.

Interestingly, Lupita Nyon’go revealed that she was never a cat person before welcoming Yoyo into her life. Her perspective on cats shifted dramatically during her recent film project, “A Quiet Place: Day One,” where she shared the screen with a feline co-star. It was through this experience that she learned to appreciate the charm of cats.

“I had been afraid of cats,” Nyong’o explains. “I just hadn’t spent much time with them. This film forced me to learn about cats, and I had to look like I owned a cat, and look like I cared, and look like I loved the cat. In the process of playing that pretend, I actually fell in love with the cats, Nico and Schnitzel. They’re so sweet and cute.”
