The news came unexpectedly but Rihanna’s Fenty fashion line is coming to a halt. Almost two years after debuting Fenty, a Paris-based ready-to-wear label under the LVMH luxury conglomerate, Rihanna and LVMH are shutting down the operations of the clothing brand.
According to a statement released by LVMH, the closure of Fenty is largely due to the challenges caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. “Rihanna and LVMH have jointly made the decision to put on hold the RTW activity, based in Europe, pending better conditions,” as per the statement by LVMH released to WWD. LVMH and Rihanna became partners in 2019, after which the Fenty fashion line was born with the release of high-priced luxury items, including her famous oversized denim jacket, shirtdresses, heel sandals, sunglasses, and among other wardrobe pieces.

Although this isn’t the end of LVMH’s partnership with the hitmaker and beauty mogul, other brands such as Fenty Beauty and Fenty Skin which are operating under LVMH’s Kendo Holdings, Inc. have recorded massive success in sales, according to reports. Even the lingerie label, Savage x Fenty, launched by the singer with TechStyle Fashion Group in 2018 and goes on to partner with equity firm L Catterton, an affiliate of LVMH, is doing well in the market.
So far, Fenty’s Instagram account has remained inactive since January 2021 and there’s the possibility of the e-commerce platform following suit in the coming weeks.
